Yes interesting point Stewart ... its not good to eat if you are stressed either, as your digestive system isn't working to its full potential.
Stress impacts the immune system & digestion - and bad digestion
as we know effects skin health - your body does not absorb all the nutrients from the foods you eat & also undigested impurities tend to accumulate in the body - faster than the body can get rid of them.
During the stress flight/fight situation adrenalin and cortisol are released, speeding the heart rate, slowing digestion, diverting blood flow to major muscle groups, all giving the body a burst of energy to escape over the waterfall from the chasing bear Â
Stress does effect us physically - emotional shock can leave you feeling drained & with our skin being like a mirror - it reflects everything that is going on in our body/mind.
So during these fight-or-flight times, the flow of blood (and nutrients) is directed to the areas of the body considered vital for responding to the stress & they are withdrawn from areas not as essential ..... such as the skin. Flow of oxygen is aswell ... making it difficult for the skin to 'breathe'. Â
So, if fight-or-flight situations become a frequent thing, the skin would be chronically deprived of both blood and oxygen ... making it dull and lifeless, less hydrated etc and more prone to breakouts.
