Topical creams containing steroids
In Spring 2002, 6 samples of topical cream taken from 4 TCM outlets tested positive for illegal corticosteroids. These are chemicals that control metabolism and sexual characteristics. They can cause skin thinning and other skin problems.
Where the products were labelled, they were referred to as "Yibishu Ointment" and "Wujigao cream". Other products found to contain steroids were labelled as "Wau Wa" cream and "999 cream".
