Totora, your before and after pics are pretty impressive, it's really great your getting good results, I'm also doing barneys, have been for about 3 months but also having uvb. i wouldn't be able to stick to that diet, i love chocolate far tooooo much  :) but well done to you.

I know what you mean. The diet is pretty extreame....and i miss the chocolate a bit...BUT
having had pretty bad P for much of my life I now feel it is really time now to find a good
way to get rid of it. I hate going to the Derm and trying a mish mash of drugs...which
so far NONE have worked for me. Only bath PUVA worked..which was fantastic....but i had
to go to hospital two - three times a week for the bath and UVB. It worked...but was very
inconvinent and they only will give it me once a year anyway!

I have considered buying an expensive UVA sunbed...but know the risks of to much UVA....
Sooo the Barneys and special Diet it is for now. ( I would like to lose a stone in weight
also...so this has got to help?).

Anyway will post some more pics in a week to show progress...all i can say is that i am
surprised. If it really turns out in the end to be certain FOODS and lack of D3 i will both
laugh and cry. Laugh - because something works at last. Cry - because i didnt try it sooner.

Hi there,
I am trying these shakes and have bought all the veggies and some fruit - but do you have to cook any of them first or do you just pulp the lot????
and how much honey, rice milk etc do you use??

Thanks

Well I've been  on this 'diet' / food regime about 10 days now
and i have to say that i am hooked.

The psoriasis on my arms and elbows has gone! the rest of
my body...legs mainly still has psoriasis - but its very thin and
not sheading much skin...if any. Thats going from a stage
where the skin was very red and thick and sheding all the time.
( Im hoping that at this rate most of my skin will be clear in about
4 + weeks!!)

To be honest i am very amazed by the results and if it turns out
that it is just some food items and lack of Vit D3 then I really
wish that someone had told me earlier.

It isnt an easy diet to stick to. And today I gave in and had a milky
cappacino - bad idea. the milk almost made me retch.....very very strange
as before i LOVED milk, and cheese.....Im finding Rice milk the best
alternative...dont like soya milk in tea much.

So anyway I really would love someone to let me know if they have tried
anything like this. I know that theres lots of forum stuff here on
the 'Barney' Vit D3 diet...but cant find anything about this food
regime.

At some point i may be keen to post some pics somwhere to show the
fact that its working...and believe me I have never wanted to show my
psoriasis covered skin before...but thats how happy and how much I
believe this method is working!!!

PS: I have just added an elbow photo to show progress in my gallery pics

Hi 1320arbroath,

Glad to hear you are willing to give it a go...its not as bad as it seems.
Here are the directions for making shake....

All the Veg and fruit needs to be raw!
(Believe me it all tastes pretty good – better than it sounds!)

Preparation:

I chop up a weeks worth of veg once a week and freeze it in individual
Bags. Each bag has enough Veg for each days shake.
This saves the bother of having to chop everyday.
I DON’T freeze the lettuce or fruit. I just add that as I go.

Add your frozen/thawed vegetable mix to the empty blender leaving enough room for fruit and lettuce.

Making the shake:
(I’m using the upright Kenwood jug type that holds about 1500ml)

Fill half the blender with the lettuce.

A good handful of fruit – I’m using apples or tinned pineapple.
I also add a banana.

The chopped up Veg mix – should be about equal amounts of various veg
from list ie… Carrots, Celery, Sweet Potatoes, Squash, Zucchini, Broccoli, Cauliflower.
Some Onion, about half per mix and some sprigs of parsley.

Add 1 1/2 cups of the apple juice (I have also used grape juice)

Add 1/2 cup of the soya, rice or oat milk (NOT Dairy!) ( I like rice better than soya )

Add the contents of one Green Tea Bag.

Add 2-3 tablespoons of the olive oil (you don't taste it)

Add 1 full tablespoon of honey or pure maple syrup

Squeeze in the juice of about 1 lemon.

Add 1- 2 tablespoons flax-seed or some omega 3 oil.
(I use that Cool oil stuff).

Put the blender lid on securely, blend for about 1 minute (until contents are smooth).
Add water as needed as we want it to become a smooth liquid easy to drink.
Like a Smoothie.

Drinking the shake:
I divide the shake mix up into three containers of about 300ml/ half pint
and put in fridge. I then drink these during the day. At mealtimes or between.

Hope that helps – let me know if you need any more info.

PS in the original shake recipe I was sent it also includes Cinnamon,
but I read somewhere that this can be bad for psoriasis - so I dont
put it in my shakes.

And these are foods being avoided:
Never straight tap water! (Use Bottled or Filtered tap water)
NO Wheat or Dairy
NO Nightshades (potato, peppers, tomatoes)
Avoid Spicy foods and alcohol! (I still have the odd beer/cider - but no wine).

PPS: Every morning I take Half an antihistamine tablet (ie half of 10mg = 5mg)
(I like Loratadine or Cetirizine)

I am combining the Shake Diet with the 'Barney' vitamin diet.
( I take the Barney vitamins at breakfast - but not sure it really
matters when you take them?)

Barney Formula:
1000-1400iu in summer and 2000-4000 iu winter, of vitamin D or D3.
1 x small multivitamin
1 x ibuprofen 200mg (I take half tablet at night - so thats 100mg)
1 x vitamin B12 (I just eat Marmite)
1 x folic acid
1 x 50-200mcg selenium
3-6 x capsules fish oil 1000mg (I take 2 – 3)
2 x flax 1000mg capsules (I just add flax oil to shake recipe)

Thanks! I fell off the 'Shake' wagon on sat ... had some wheat, booze, tomatos....regretting it a bit at
moment as I seemed to have a minor flare up sun/mon  and I can only put it down to those.
( I have also had some free range chicken, for the last 3 days, and normally i wouldnt
worry about that...however this happens to coincidently be the first chicken i have had since starting
the 'Shakes'. I just took a look on an allergy hair test list i did last year....and it does say
avoid chicken! anyway might be another one to avoid. Im fine with beef, duck as i have been
eating those recently with no probs.)

still on the whole my skin looks better and i feel better. less sluggish. that will be the veg, fruit and vitamins!

Hi Mikey,

I tried this last year:

You pay up front. They send a small kit and you send
some hair with roots attached - ouch! back to them.

They then send you the allergy results.

Now Im very sceptical about things like this....and you will
have to make your mind up as to wether its worth it.
I found it enlightening...and have avoided most of the foods
they say I should. I definatelly felt better...less bloated and tired.
( Given up sandwiches forever now! - no more sleepy afternoons at
work).

Im not sure it has helped the P though. Though maybe some of the pointers
make sense. Not sure.

I am sure that the Veg/fruit diet combined with the Barneys is showing results.
And i FEEL great! So that  itself is a benefit.

That sounds great - congratulations!

How long was it before you started to see results Totoro?

I'm currently in the 2nd week of a Pagano-style diet (I'm also eating gluten-free) and am have been taking the following daily for about 3 weeks:

3 x Omega,3,6,9
3 x Milk Thistle
3 x Zinc, Magnesium, Calcium
1 x Vitamin D

I'm looking into starting this too. Should I give up the above and revert to Barney's formula? I'm also a little apprehensive about taking ibuprofen on a daily basis - would it matter much if i were to cut that tablet out?

Hi Tirez,

I have the Pagano book...but always found the food bit layout rather confusing. But it does
seem to have similiar food ideas to the 'Shake' diet. The good thing about the shakes is you
get a massive amount of raw fruit and veg...which would be quiet hard to actually chew though
in the usual manner. Also the shakes are filling...so cut out the need to snack.

I would carry on with the...
3 x Omega,3,6,9
3 x Milk Thistle
3 x Zinc, Magnesium, Calcium
1 x Vitamin D

You could add the Omega to the shake if its in liquid form. I've been taking all the others
on the 'Barneys' exept for Milk Thistle. Might give that a go myself.
I limit myself to half a ibuprofen a day at night...thats 100mg rather than 200mg. Im not
sure how important to the whole diet it is...maybe you could try a few weeks with and a few
weeks without and see difference?

As far as results i noticed a great improvement in the first 2 weeks...thats with the Shake Diet AND
Barneys combined. At the moment Im thinking of taking the parsely out of the shake mix as
something in the last batch is slightly irretating me...and im not sure what it is. It may
be the whole chicken I cooked sunday night...my GF is veggie so i've been eating it three
days running....and i havent actually had chicken for a while. Not sure. Stopped eating it
now anyway. I had duck twice last week with no problems.

So if you do do the shake mix leave out the parsley for the first two weeks just in case.
In the original shake recipe on the web the guy didnt include it but recently he has
added it...not sure why.

Good luck, hope it works out well for you.

t

ps...im not sure if Vit D and Vit D3 are exactly the same. Maybe someone
on the forum may know? Anyway Im using Vit D3.

Hi Totoro, I think bj says the ibuprofen helps bind the barneys formula all together and there is a difference between vit d and vit d3 although i can't remember what exactly!!but it is the vit d3 we should be taking.  :)
