Accidental discovery which helped my psoriasis greatly.
« on: November 29, 2011, 11:21:03 PM »
I suffer with psoriasis in all the usual places, hands, elbows, knees etc, one day while getting physio for sore knees after a road accident, the physio suggested a neoprene knee brace to help with my condition ( the sore knees ) after a week or so  i could see a marked difference between the leg with the brace and my other leg, namely my psoriasis was somewhat better and in afew more weeks the leg ( knee ) was completely clear. This prompted me to start experimenting,i bought some neoprene elbow braces and neoprene gloves. Both my knees are now clear ( 4 months ) and have had some success with my elbows and hands but not as good as my legs, but its easy to hide them under your pants, you dont look that cool with elbow pads and gloves on in the pub or work etc.The only downside is they start to stink a bit after a day or two but they wash OK and dry pretty quickly,I have suffered for 30 plus years and tried everything and am astonished by my accidental discovery, so if anyone would like to give it a go you can buy them £5 elbow pads £10 gloves £20 knee brace in Boot,s or on the net, CHEERS CONNOLLYBONCE,

Do you sweat under the neoprene pads? I only ask because years ago I went to a really dingy nightclub that was insanely hot and humid, to the extent that the wallpaper was peeling off and the carpet squelched! Just as well the music was good, really, as it was probably a health hazard! But the following morning I awoke to find my skin, which had been about 20% covered with psoriasis, completely clear. Sadly it didn't last, and neither did the club (it closed shortly afterwards) but I've always wondered whether it was the humidity, or something in the atmosphere, or sweating out toxins, or something. Been in other sweaty places since and never experienced the same thing, but I live in hope!

I suppose that anything that retains moisture has got to be beneficial.

I used to have more flakes than Kellogg's

To ClaireRB, in answer to your question about neoprene pads you do sweat a bit,but not too much they sort of keep your skin moist, but after 3 or 4 days they start to smell a bit and need washing. Thanks for your interest CONNOLLYBONCE,

About 4-5 years back I used a steam room a couple of times, this really helped my P. As you said above I'm unsure if this was the humidity or sweat. It's a shame not many people have the courage to try something like a steam room as covering up is almost a religion for most people. I only had P on my elbows at the time and it wasn't too red and flaky so I had the confidence to use it.

My guttate psoriasis magically disappeared temporarily when I was on honeymoon in Malaysia. We put it down to the humidity as my legs had been covered in linen trousers. As soon as we came back to the UK, it returned.

I've tried to get my doc to prescribe regular holidays to Malaysia, but he's having none of it!
