Some brands of baking soda contain aluminium, so obviously just from a general health point of view you should avoid those brands.

A teaspoon of baking soda in water daily, is normally consumed by people to help alkalise their bodies, plus a number of other health benefits.

A friend of mine does it every day and swears by it. Her brother is taking it because he has cancer. The doctors gave him 6 months and through various natural modalities he has now kept going for over 12 years. Baking soda is just one of many methods he uses.

I tried it and found it so utterly revolting that I never did it again

I can’t say its effect on P, but since it is used for the purpose of alkalising…..........it may be OK ?!

Sorry can't be of more help.

And remember – if you do start taking it and you get worse – that might just be a healing crisis that will pass.

But how will you know, unless you are prepared to keep going and see if it passes. Bit of a tricky one.

The Earth Clinic forum has some great alternative suggestions, some of them quite wacky and way out there, but some of them are simply fantastic, and I have got great tips and ideas over the years.

They are bound to cover baking soda some where in their archives.

I use a small amount of baking soda as a yeast substitute in making bread.  No impact on my psoriasis.  And since baking soda, aka sodium bicarbonate, is used as stomach acid reducer it can probably be used safely in higher quantities.  However dousing your stomach regularly with baking soda might eventually change the amount of acid your stomach produces, which will cause digestion issues.  Therefore I would tend to shy away from the practice, but I can be wrong.

Hi Sweetskin

I take a spoon of this when ever I have heartburn which is quite often and it does the relieve it instantly
there is a lot out there about it and keeping your body alkalized, I have also read that it is helpful when used as a bath salt, I did this a couple of times and it was good to relive itching, I don't really think it improves my psoriasis but it certainly does relieve my heartburn.
Best thing you could do is give up gluten, very low carbohydrates intake, alcohol if you drink, and consume lots of green veggies, you will be amazed with in a month the difference it can have on some people, but then we are all different, thats what works for me.
