Calling all thin people who do not have bowel movement issues...
« on: November 08, 2011, 01:46:19 AM »
I have noticed in this forum that there are people who are either overweight and/or suffered from IBS or irregular bowel movements.  When those people changed their diets, they lost weight and improved their bowel movements.  As a result, those people saw big improvement in the psoriasis.

I am a thin guy...I have been around 155 pounds (6 feet tall) my entire adult life and I have never had bowel issues of any kind.  Sure I had an upset stomach or two growing up, but that's normal.  But on a daily basis, my bowel movements are normal.

So what I'm wondering is, for thin people without bowel movement issues, what worked for you?  I don't have weight I need to lose.  There's nothing I need to do to improve my elimination.  So people who are like me in that regard...what worked for you?

NYGuy I have the same problem. I am also thin and don't have bowel problems.
When I did my drastic diet (I ate only fruit, veg, fish, poultry) I lost so much weight within a week that I looked anorexic. I felt like I had to eat loads until I felt sick. That's why I'm having trouble cutting gluten out of my diet. Although having said that there are now lots of gluten free flour blend you can buy in the supermarkets/health food shops and there are many suitable recipes on the internet.

I've always been thin 5'7" and 9st, no problems with bowel movements. I started pagano's 3 months ago but I was losing so much weight I had to stop, I still don't eat any nightshades or pasta, rice, potatoes, red meat or processed food. I didn't notice any difference to my skin but I did start another session of uvb in September so am nearly clear now.

I don't know how you guys were losing so much weight on Pagano's diet.  I only lost 2 pounds.

If you are thin, Pagano's diet is not supposed cause you to lose weight.  He even says in the book that if you are hungry, then eat!  You should not be hungry.  Make sure you give yourself generous servings of salad, etc.

My breakfast is typically oatmeal, cold cereal (rice chex or cheerios), an occasional omelet, and an occasional whole wheat bagel.

My lunches include turkey, almond butter and jelly, tuna along with a fruit, vegetable (carrots and hummus or celery and almond butter), and nuts (almonds or pistachio nuts).  Twice a week, I have a fagi plain yogurt to go with my lunch.  I also have a mid morning snack, which can be a fruit or a whole grain rice cake.

My dinners: I have a salad, then I have chicken or fish as the main course to go with either quinioa, brown rice, or sweet potato, and a vegetable (broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, string beans).  Sometimes I just make myself a very large salad and have chicken with it or something.

At night, the saffron tea keeps me full.  I'll also make myself a vegetable drink to alkalize my body.  Once a week I'll have frozen yogurt with crushed walnuts.

I am not hungry at all throughout the day.  I'm only hungry leading up to a meal and then I'm satisfied.

Unfortunately, all the above hasn't cleared me.  I'm wondering if there's a common thread between thin people who do not have bowel movement issues that have psoriasis.

Just wondering...if you ever achieved clearing WITHOUT biologics, what worked for you?  For me, I was clear for a while using Barney's Formula, light box, and making some improvements here and there from my diet.  I didn't eliminate anything from the diet, just cut back on night shades, started drinking more water, and incorporating more fruits and vegetables.

Unfortunately, the honeymoon was over and the P started creeping back in.

What you said is interesting, not because I personally think that your diet is a bit "screwed up", and you would know what that means if you take Charles diet as a reference. But mainly because we both experienced the same thing with Barney's formula. Can you give me more details about it? How much D&ibu was needed for your skin, and how much time it took to clear? how much time clearing lasted ? What you did to try to get back on clearing with Barney's ?

For me it was really frustrating because I cleared too one time and then nothing..I created a topic where I would say what supplements I was taking at that time, from 2000IU+200mg ibu during 2 month, to 6000IU+200mg during 2 month, then 8000-10000IU+200mg...nothing worked again as if my body got used to barney's just for the first time.. very frustrating.

Hi NYGuy,

I'm 179cm and a little under 70Kg. Have no known bowel issues.

I started off with Pagano but it didn't do much for me (I skipped the more invasive recommendations  :o) although he did raise my awareness of nightshades.

Then I saw this link:

which made a significant difference to me.

Finally I came across BJ's Barney's formula thread.

Three years later and I'm pretty much in control, touch wood - last year I had a flare up in early Novemeber and the end of the winter but so far so good this year.

The gist of my lifestyle changes are:
 - eating lots of vegetables, in particular beetroot and onion but not excessively so
 - avoiding tomatoes (or anything containing them) like the plague. Easier said than done.
 - limiting biscuits, cakes, processed food etc. especially in the colder months
 - regular outdoor exercise
 - occassional gimchee (bit like saurkraut it's fermented vegetables)
 - take the sun when it's there but in moderation
 - peppermint oil every day before brekkie and D3 from late October through late March. Als take fish oil regularly.

My diet changes were really hard-core the first few months but that probably wasn't necessary although I believe that probably speeded things up a bit.

I also found the steam room useful2-3 times a week during the first year. It softened up the thick hard plaques so I could gently rub away the outer layers of dead skin and let the sun do its magic. The sweating may be beneficial too - not sure on that one.

As BJ regulalrly points out it's also important to keep a lid on inflammation elsewhere be that dental or otherwise.

hth,
wex

On this subject of thin people and diet, I have been doing lots of internet research with my husband. He has found the following information concerning exclusion diets and p which makes a lot of sense.
Those that have p and are over weight or have other health problems such as IBS, diet will help their p and help them to lose weight, whilst also helping their other health issues.
I would say that this mirrors my experience entirely.
