chinese herbalist
« on: April 05, 2004, 11:54:04 AM »
ok so not so long back i went to see a chinese herbalist about my psoriasis. i paid around £60 for the treatment and £10 for the first consultation.
the herbalist there told me that my inner chi was out of balance and that a series of disgusting drinks would help cure it. me being the naive psoriasis sufferer followed her advise which was expensive.
she gave me three bags which resembled tree bark that i had to boil and drink. she also gave me a pot of moisturiser that wasnt labelled and didnt have ingrediants in which was ashame as i was very interested.
on the first day i did exactly as told which was two drinks a day and the moisturiser when needed.
after a week my skin was completely clear and my face felt so smooth.
after the second week it had started coming back in bigger patches and the drinks really started to make me ill. so for anyone considering this treatment well it's ok for  a quick clear up but dont build your hopes up like i did!  ;)

I tried this years ago and it made me gag when I had to drink the awful gloop....yeuck!!!

I did hear some horror stories about some concoctions sold actually contained steroids too.  St Thomas'd hospital in London did at one time make up their own "teabags" of the stuff.

:-/ yeah well i hate building my hopes up.. i know there isnt a cure but damn when my skin clears up i get so happy. my face is getting worse but i dont know what to use. i'm using lots of moisturiser at the moment. anything to cover it up???
i was refered to a specialist but unfortunately my appointments were every 6 months by which the specialist never saw how bad my psoriasis was as it cleared up during that period.
trouble is the doctor has taken my name of the specialist list and i could be on a very long waiting list if my psoriasis goes really bad again.
when it's on your face you cant really hide it.. wish there was something that did cover it though!

A few of us here find that Alphosyl cream is quite useful for the face.  Youo can get this coal tar based ceram at Boots without a prescription.

Also just badger the derm's office ....waiting 6 months is jus not reasonable for someone who needs a more immediate referral.

Hi Jenna I'd recommend Aqueous cream and either a light tar or dithranol at night and aqueous during the da. I'm having a beakout on my face at the mo too and have to try and forget its there which is hard.

there was a report on GMTV today : they sent a reporter in to 2 chinese herbalists to ask for cream to help a 1 year old baby with eczema - in each case she was given two creams - one called 999 (and an other).  they tested both creams and found they contained steriods.  The 999 cream was the worst, but both should only have been available on prescription.

They've had a lot of bad press these guys. It's completely unregulated and you just don't know what you're getting - people have ended up with serious liver damage from some of these potions. Each to their own but I wouldn't touch any of it.
