Hi

I found the Chinese doctors life style regime helped, no booze, red meats, fried foods, chocolate, shellfish etc

The various twigs and powders i had to boil up and drink twice a day were 1) bloody expensive 2) tasted awful 3) waste of time

I'm trying Barneys formula at the mo, nothing miraculous happening but at least its not costing me £250 a month!!

Good luck and chin up, your not alone

i agree with bobmarch - what a pain boiling all those stinking twigs!! then when that didnt work they recommended adding ANOTHER potion which i had to put on my skin - cost a fortune, did nothing.

however i like the chinese theory on psoriasis and wonder if these things didnt help because
a) the dr i used was a high street store in a shopping centre, perhaps not the most authentic!!
b) they simply misdiagnosed my form of psoriasis and didnt prescribe the correct herbs.

i only mention this because like bobmarch i was told which foods to avoid and now have dramatic clearance through simple diet and acupuncture. my acupuncture dr (who isnt chinese) has studied chinese medicine and uses the principals to treat me. ive only had 2 sessions with him but his chinese theory on P was interesting - the "inner heat and inner damp" seemed to make sense. he also gave me a thick black chinese cream which has previously been discussed on these boards - that too seems to help.

i would say, if you have tried everything else dont be afraid to give the chinese medicine a go - as we all know.....what works for one doesnt neccasserily work for all. BUT dont go spending a fortune with the continual promise that "it just takes time" i stuck very strictly to my diet and could see changes within 1 month, i then had the acupuncture and saw clearing speed up within 3days!! im also not sure i believe the whole "it has to come out before it disappears" theory. so maybe try it but set yourself a time limit and if it doesnt work dont throw more money at it.

I tried it too.

It  was very, very, expensive and did nothing, not a damned thing.

I had to boil up a bag of what looked like  twigs, leaves etc, and drink some of it and wash in the rest!  I bag of 'bits' boiled up enough for two days.   It was purple!

I did only give it about 6 weeks, have read hear and other places you need to give it far longer.

I did this too, awful, boiling up foul smelling black herbs, and drinking the thick gunky potion. I had to try not to heave with the awful smell and awful taste...and when it got that thick skin on top of the potion (shudder). I was considering doing it again but I didn't have any improvements whatsoever....and the thought of drinking that stuff again....arrghhhh....I can't.

I agree, you'd be better off going to your local forest - sweeping up the mulch and boiling that, at least you get to keep the cash!!! ;D ;D

The point about Barneys is well made. It is not a secret formula (unlike  chinese medecines that often contain potent steroids), It is cheap...pence instead of Pounds a day, Barney makes nothing out of it so has no reason to feed you Bull, and lastly, it seems to work in a good number of people.

I would seek his advice ref doses for kids, esp the ibuprofen. I notice that Ibuprofen is now available for kids under 12 whereas previously it was not reccomended in the UK.

good luck!! ;)
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me...than a full frontal Lobotomy!!!

I don't want to be cynical but you also mention "he also gave me a thick black chinese cream"and in another thread  that you have sunbed sessions. You are on quite a complex mixture of treatments. So which does the work? - what does the cream contain...its no use going by the label, they often forget to list the steroids. I would be tempted to stop the cream, see if you rebound with a flare ...if not an d the P stays away - you save the cost of the cream.

If it comes back cut out the accupuncture and restart the cream...if it is steroids , your skin will clear again.

Great advice about giving it a go if all else fails....and also not 'chasing the dream' by throwing money at it continually. I'd be interested to know what dietary advice would be given to a child. My advice was to stop eating chillis, stop smoking and stop drinking booze. If you're daughters doing all that , P is the least of your worries!!!! ;D ;D ;D
