See my post on the other Serotonin-Psoriasis thread.  Doing rather well.  I think probiotics are doing me much good.

BTW, check this out:

It was posted on another thread.  Overall I think it is a good summary of this entire "treating psoriasis through diet" subject.  But in it he says he regularly uses psyllium husks/bentonite/capryllic acid to kill off candida, to good effect.  This combination is often cited on the internet; I've read about it before but haven't tried it.  Have you?  I just fear that such a combination might be a bit too harsh.

I am using this:

Check out the list of ingredients.  It's loaded with good stuff.

You can buy it a bit cheaper on amazon.com.

Most folks complain about the taste but since I take it with my daily green smoothie I don't taste it at all.  I take it only on weekdays.  On weekends I take Align capsules (You are not allowed to view links. Hi UVB and ScarlettRabbit (and everyone else),
I'm new to this forum and was drawn to it as I'm also a P sufferer for about 8 years now failing to find a way to improve. My P gets progressively worse each year and I've tried nearly everything except for the biologics, which I'm a bit scared of at the moment, but unfortunately that's my next progression in medication (Humira). So to attempt a more natural remedy, I discussed with my dermatologist the option of a raw diet or a GFD. He advised that 1/6 patients see a benefit in a 'strict' GFD so that's a big enough opportunity for me to take it onboard and go hell for leather on the GFD.

About a year ago I considered doing the GFD just by doing some online research. So I had a celiac test and it came back negative. Hence, I didn't consider going on a GFD any longer however I still did have 'similar' celiac symptoms (bloating, constipation, diarrhea, etc..) so I just figured I was plain old 'f##ked up. My father tells me we have psoriasis and IBS in the family.... great family I say!! ;-?

Since, then nothings changed with my psoriasis until last week when I get depressed at the thought of life dealing with this f^&ken disease day in day out...on and on and on with the battling. It made things worse for me when I checked online (youtube) and searched for severe psoriasis and found no one with as much as I have on my body. I'm about 80% covered but luckily not visible on my face and minimal on my hands... but everywhere else I barely see actual skin.

Anyway, I digress.... So again I decided to treat P from the inside. So this week I've been on a raw diet. Improvements in me are lots actually. 1 big improvent is no more constipation...or 'tough' things to deal with downstairs. Wow what a morning that was!! Wooohoooo. However this morning the Derm has requested to move to a GFD diet and keep at it for 6 months 'strict as strict can be'.

So in looking around I found this:

All very promising and now I'm filled with hope.
Next week I start my GFD and luckily for me at the end of that week there is a Gluten free food show in Melbourne\Australia. So that'll teach me lots.
Again, I digress.... sorry, I'm hopeful and excited to be 'potentially' better. (P has reeeeeeaally made me more introverted when I used to be an extrovert!!! = I'm now a very boring person and painful to be with...ask my partner.... don't know how she handles it.... she's the tough on here....)

So I noticed that UVB and ScarlettRabbit had very good results from being on this GFD, just in a few weeks of a strict diet.
I'm hopeful of the same for me but wondering how ScarlettRabbit in particular is going atm? Still improving?

Any tips from anyone to get started? At this moment, I have no idea what I can\can't eat, how it will practically affect\change my life (restuarants - what is always safe to order.etc..), etc..etc... I'll get some info from the Glutenfree show but that's a few weeks away and I'll like to have some knowledge prior to getting there so I understand some already.

Any help from any one.... any pointers to food lists for gluten free or diet regimes, recipes, life notes, etc..etc.. anything would be helpful.

This is probably my last chance to avoid the biologics so these next 6 months are my most crucial 6 months of my life... Biologics scared the poop outta me for some reason...

THANKS ALL for your comments, feedback, anything and I wish every C and P sufferer a wonderful day and fantastically bright future!
My sun is a little brighter today.

Cheers,
Paul

It would be a good idea to join the Coeliac Society.

Here is one for your country; they will direct you to meetings in your state:

Now they are quite strict and don’t let just anyone join. You either have to be diagnosed as a Coeliac or be sensitive to gluten.

So in your case, you will need to get your doctor to write a letter saying that he has advised you to go on a gluten free diet for health and medical reasons. And attach that letter when you complete the membership form.

The Coeliac Society has huge lists and resources that show what foods are gluten-free and what foods you have to avoid.

Gluten turns up in the most strangest of foods and under varies different names (i.e.) found in some supplements and medications, found in liquid stocks, rice milk, soy milk (as malt extract), vegemite, preservatives (MSG in Chinese food) syrups, instant coffee, etc...

The Coeliac Society will guide you through this potential minefield.

There are loads of gluten-free alternatives available, even beer: O'Brien and Billabong Brewing in Australia both make gluten-free beer.

A lot of Coeliacs are also lactose intolerant, so the society can guide you on the milk free diet too.

Good Luck

Paul, welcome.  Many folks apparently have some measure of gluten sensitivity that goes undetected with standard blood testing.  So it is worth a shot going gluten free; it certainly won't hurt you.  However I strongly encourage you go dairy free as well.  I suspect dairy sensitivity is at least as prevalent as gluten sensitivity among psoriatics.  Dairy was once a major element of my diet.  Little did I realize it was fueling my psoriasis.  Others share the same story.

Like you I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).  Going on a gluten free, dairy free and nightshades free (potato, tomato, pepper, aubergine) diet and eating loads of raw fruits and veggies cleared all that up in a hurry.  And I lots excess weight and body fat too.  :)

Two last points:

1) Since you've had IBS you might want to do some research on Candida yeast and its relationship to something known as Leaky Gut Syndrome.  This will probably lead you to taking supplements to kill off Candida and taking probiotics to keep your gut happy.

2) You may find yourself mildly/moderately sensitive to several foods.  Common "second tier" food items include shellfish, yeast, soya, beans and peanuts.  However you probably won't be able to detect this until your psoriasis has cleared a bit.

Best of success to you!

Thanks for the advice MadCat.... muchly appreciated.
I think my dermatologist will provide that letter of recommendation so I can join.

Thanks again and very much appreciated.

Thanks Lazza, I will definately look into that.

In regard to dairy, I've actually stopped the visible dairy for about a week now. By this I mean Milk, butter, cheese.... .but in time I'll most likely learn all the other areas dairy pops up. So yeh will go down that path too.

Tonight for dinner I went to a restaurant called SoulMamma and had my first Wheat Gluten free meal. I assume that is considered Gluten free..... but I have a question about this.

Are there different types of 'gluten free' foods? ie: Wheat GF, ??? GF, etc..etc??

I confirmed with the restaurant when booking that Gluten Free was available. So when we got there I asked for the Gluten Free options. However, it struck me a bit that the waiter mentioned they have specifically 'wheat gluten free' meals....

So just really wondering what other Gluten free type of meals there can be?

Thanks again Lazza,

Paul.

Gluten is in wheat and in a few other grains like rye and barley.  It is often found in trace amounts in packaged goods made with other grain, like oats, because manufacturers might not clean their machinery well enough.  If you really have Celiac Disease this is a big deal.  However if not then these specs of gluten are not a worry.  More info:

Hi Paul

The society will also have a list of cafes, shops, bakeries, pizza joints, restaurants, in your area that offer gluten-free dining or food to purchase.

You could also try a Melbourne restaurant called Le Cru at 137 Victoria Avenue Albert Park 3206 - they serve food that is 100% free of gluten/wheat and dairy.

I have never been myself, but have heard rave reviews from a number of other people.
