Based upon what I have read gluten, milk, and soy most commonly cause immune reactions in people. Beans in general are not as good for you as you might think. I am eating them as they provide protein and are included in the bags of frozen mixed vegetables that I buy -more on beans later. I'm sure some of you are saying (in the UK) "Bloody hell what do you eat?" -like my accent? Pairing down the diet can make one feel as if they can't eat anything, but as far as I am concerned I can eat anything. I choose to eat milk free and gluten free because I know the health benefits for me.

Re: Citris Fruits -I have been eating most apples and bananas because I like them best. Bananas are very portable and make a great part of my breakfast.  I had an orange tonight. Citrus fruits are more expensive and hard to peel.  A pinapple is $4 USD, an 8 pound bag of oranges are $9, and bananas are $.69/pound. (The EU police can convert these numbers to GBP and kilos). I do have a few oranges a week and I do like lemon juice in the hummus and fish that I make. I have taken a vitamin D and folic acid supplement about three times in the 4 weeks that I have been on this new diet. I can't comment on Barney's formula. My guess is that if Barney's formula is working for people (and this is a guess) then these people probably have an absorption problem which may be caused by a gluten/casein or other intolerance. People intolerant to gluten often have low levels of iron, zinc and folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin D, etc. etc.

Cassie - Are your supplements gluten free? Read the side of the package. Don't worry about redness fading immediately. It takes time! Imagine how many skin cells are built up on a lesion. Then imagine that your skin suddenly goes from producing a new skin cell every 3 days to every 30 days. I would imagine it takes a long time to push out the skin that is in the queue. and heal the area There are also capillaries that have been created and I believe that exposure to sunlight is beneficial to make them retreat. I have also read that glycerin helps some people with the redness. One more thing -an adult (if they have a gluten intolerance) could take 6 months to 2 years for their intestines to heal.
If the gluten free doesn't do it then begin eliminating milk, nightshades, then peanuts, then soy.

Cassie,
I have tried mimiccream which is nut milk and sodium bicarbonate. It made my coffee smoother, but I prefer black coffee over the substitute. The mimiccream was a little lumpy. I am sure a soy milk or similar would be OK if you are not allergic to it. Instead of cream I use a very small amount of sugar or stevia to sweeten it.

I wanted to give you an update on my experience with the gluten and milk free diet. In general I have been eating a lot of vegetables and very little meat. I was eating some chicken with lunches or dinners, but the portions have been small compared to the rest of the meal. As far as I know I have been gluten free since the beginning of the diet.

This weekend was Memorial Day weekend in the US. We did a lot of grilling. I ate red meat for the first time in over 5 weeks. I ate beef, pork, and chicken and drank a lot of sorghum beer. I ate very few vegetables. In addition the food that I was eating was grilled and not boiled. The next day I ate more chicken. I am more in tune with my body than ever, and I have observed that the food took longer to pass through my body. Eating meat just doesn't feel as healthy. And I have done Atkins in the past. I am overweight by 8 pounds weighing in at 186 pounds at 5 feet 11 inches with a BMI of 25.9. (Overweight BMI is 25-29.9). All spots are continuing to clear despite my bad behavior this weekend. Next on my agenda is to get daily exercise.

i havent seen that mimic cream and wanted to stay away from the soya milk.   so will let you know what this rice milk is like....think im going to have to find someone to test me for food intolerance as this could take me ages to go through all this food alimination....even though there been no change with p  i do feel better for eating this way and stil do think that this is a good road to go down....cassie

If experimenting by yourself with food doesn't seem to make a difference, I would encourage you to get tested....as anything that can possibly help reduce p that doesn't involve meds is a plus I think!

Now that I've changed my diet I'm trying to pay attention to what are the worst offenders, especially when I am in situations where the food available isn't what I usually eat. For some people having a day off isn't going to matter, for others it is.

I'm hoping that I can have a day off now and again on some foods, especially during berry season---I love my raspberries, but they don't love my skin, and I'd like to have them at least once!!

I would like to continue on our discussion of diet and psoriasis. I mentioned previously that I had tried the pagano diet and cheated. It seemed to help, but no clear. As I stated before this was probably because I did not use gluten free foods and maybe even milk-free foods. Let me tell you another reason why I did the diet. I thought I might have yeast overgrowth in my gut (causing leaky gut). Candida is hard to get rid of quickly. I have never been tested for Candida infection, but let me tell you what I have found in all of my reading about psoriasis. Psoriasis sufferers have a higher concentration of yeast on the psoriasis sites and in stool samples. Candida affects the gut and penetrates the gut, contributes to leaky gut, and causes problems throughout the body. When I first started the gluten free diet I began taking nystatin tablets. I would take 4 tablets 3 times per day. I did this for several weeks. I stopped for a while and now I am taking 2 tablets 2 times per day. I am not a doctor, but because of everything I have read I recommend that others that have not seen an improvement try this technique with the use of a strict diet. The idea is that nystatin is an antifungal which is good at killing Candida Albicans. Here's a link to Scientific American article which tells a little bit about Candida.

I just "googled" the Pagano diet, and it does appear that I am following a similar regime to what he suggests, interesting.

Just eating apples for 3 days, that would certainly help with elimination, wouldn't it? I do eat grapes as my main fruit right now as I love them and they are in season. It's nice to know I can eat apples, I'm still not completely clear on which fruit is okay for me--I know berries and all the citrus fruit is out.

That is very interesting about Candida.

I am also really starting to work again on my weight loss, so I am gravitating towards more salads and soups right now. (I lost 100# last year on Atkins but created a monster with my p)---I spent a few months just learning what to eat, now I'm back to also watching it so that I can lose. I still have about 80# to lose. It's been challenging to change from eating low carb only with very high protein to eating more vegetarian and fish---the carbs are naturally higher with the veggies (and added rice so I can be full!!) but I feel so much better and I know I'm much healthier---which is a good thing!

Does anyone take any supplements like fish oil?

I lost 8# the first two weeks, then it settled off---now I'm actively working to lose again so lost 3.5# last week.

If you're concerned about losing too much, add in rice and find some gluten free cookies or bread to add into your diet, then your calories/carbs (whatever you look at) won't be so light....

Good luck!
