I do take a fish oil supplement---good suggestions and thanks!

It's never fun when you're exposed to strep and find out about it after the fact--that's for sure...

I been reading with interest and am going to try the Gluten free, I've seen some stuff in Tesco but not a lot in general where are the products most widly available?

Two years ago I was forced onto a restricted diet for 6 months ( no oily ( except fish) or fatty food, only fresh or boiled ) it was horrible at first but I did get use to it and I must say I did feel very healthy and have stuck to soya milk. Not sure if it helped the P although after 4 months there was some improvement.

Basically what you need to do for the diet to be effective (in my opinion) is to eat a lot of raw green vegetables without a lot of dressing and cut out sugar and reduce meat. Any fresh cut of meat is gluten free as are fresh vegetables. This should be about 90% of what you now eat. 80% vegetables, 20% fish/chicken.  I recommend cutting out all milk products as well. Gluten free grains are rice, cornmeal, sorghum, etc. Use these grains and bake yourself some nice muffins. That is all there is to it. Don't eat processed foods. At first it sounds daunting, but realize you have a choice and are choosing to eat this way. So in a nutshell this diet is more than gluten free, but it does give nice results for at least some psoriasis sufferers. The more you suffer the more the chances are that this diet will help you!

What I'm doing is a little different so just thought I'd post it as well---

No gluten so no wheat, rye, barley, and only gluten-free oats
No nightshade veggies so no potatoes, peppers, eggplant
No acidic fruits so no tomatoes, lemons, oranges, straw/rasp/black berries

No beef

No or very little caffeine

Very little sugar

Light dairy

As much water as I can drink everyday

This is what is working for me, making a significant difference in my p after just 1 1/2 months.

It was all going well till you mentioned no alcohol

The main alcohol that can cause P is beer , Some people find red wine can rev the P up ,

Lots of people find that the P goes worse after a drinking bout but that's because the body is over worked due to to much alcohol

Red wine one of my vices!yes I have noticed that too much can cause a flare up. I guess I'll have to stick to cider

Been reading this post for a while and now started my gluten free regime monday just gone...first couple of days have gone well so far!  Thankfully my local Sainsburys has quite a bit of gluten free products! I'm also trying the non-diary route as well and was told that goats milk was an alternative for cows milk. Am very surprised by goats milk which I now have in tea and on my cereal.  I was exepcting something really quite horrible but to my surprise there's no real difference to normal milk.

I'm adopting this on top of a new regime that I started about 2/3 months ago - one that, so far, I'm really pleased with.  Just feel like I need something more, to top up what I've already been working on.

For people new to this (like me!) is it worth putting together some receipes, meal ideas in one place (or starting a new post specifically for this? - apologies if this has been done). I find it difficult for things to have as a snack (apart from fruit!) so any ideas would be welcome.  Maybe if the kind of foods people could eat were listed, it would show them that trying this route isn't such an upheaval that they probably think it is.

cheers

hellojed

p.s.
Alcohol query - i'm visitng london at the weekend to see some old friends which will inevitably turn into a quite a session! I'm going to veto beer but if anyone has any other gluten friendly drinks ideas then they would be most welcome  ;)

Gin and vodka are the most P friendly alcohols .

I drink gin ,soda water and a dash of lemonade ....more lemonade in winter and more soda in the summer.( 50/50 even).mmmmm..mothers milk!

The potassium bicarbonate in soda water actually is alkalysing as well

Zero irritation to p as long as one allows for the diuretic affect of all alcohol and drink plenty of water ( before, after etc)

i believe that these two alcohols are the lowest in histamine as well?
