Wikipedia is not a medical dictionary, so I wouldn't trust their definitions. Also, "Candida die-off" is simply not a medically recognized condition.

Look in any medical dictionary and you will see that Herxheimer reaction refers only to the reaction occurring when gram negative bacterial infections such as syphilis, Borreliosis, Lyme disease etc. are treated.

Well I agree with you on the following points:

1) Wikipedia is not a medical dictionary.
2) Traditionally Herxheimer reaction is used to describe a condition following a die-off of bacteria.

Now if you were to peruse the vast amount of articles on Candida die-off, often referred to as healing crisis/reaction or Herxheimer reaction, and you still conclude it is simply beyond the realm of accepted medical knowledge, fine.  I have arrived at a different conclusion.  And my reaction to taking Align probiotics fits to a tee what folks refer to Candida die-off.  Could it have indeed be something else?  Of course, anything is possible.  But based on my research I have arrived at the mostly likely explanation, ... in my judgement.  If you and/or what you perceive the proper medical establishment think otherwise, that's wonderful.  No really, it is.

Getting back on track..
Align only contains 1 billion Bifantis probiotic.
Which isnt enough. Is there a way to empty a couple of align capsules into yogurt or something and get the bacteria to breed into the trillions?

Stewart, I don't know if that would work! The simplest way is to make yoghurt. I make it the"lazy way" but it works:
Just pour some milk in a bowl, heat it up to warmish temperature in a microwave (or stove top) (stick your pinkie in it, it should be comfortable not hot), pre warm the oven to warmish (about 150 degrees F), stir one spoonful of store bought yoghurt in the milk, stick the bowl in the oven (turn it off when warmish temperature reached), leave overnight. It works everytime and takes little effort.

If you want even more bacteria in it, leave for 24 hours (but in that case rewarm oven from time to time).

Lazza, I would make sure that the websites on Candida that you look at are real science and not pseudo science of which there is a lot. I would check the author, his/her background, the validity of the methods used to arrive at their conclusion etc.

Throw in towel  .... I'm so frustrated reading your responses - Lazza has been a terrific resource to peeps here and I really appreciate the time and effort he puts into responding to peeps ..... Yes, we all know that P is a complex condition, perhaps it cannot be cured by diet alone - perhaps it can for some ....

Indeed, this programme next week will shed some light on diet and P You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login!/

BB, thanks so much!  :)  I've decided rather than to engage in silly arguments I will ignore such posts from Eve; silence is often a much stronger message than any written word.  I spend enough time on this forum trying to help people.  Unfortunately these exchanges with Eve are not useful (in my opinion) and, for myself, deathly dull.

Nothing silly about being accurate and i agree completely with evy...the devil's always in the details

now back to the original discussion, i listened to a good interview on national public radio Science Friday from scientists in the latest research on probiotics..i will look for the study but here is the text of the interview ..you can also listen to it...with the listen button which is best as there is more detail

he suggests, if i interpret it accurately, that added probiotics only last a few weeks in the gut, they do not substantially alter the balance of microbes but they do alter how the microbes communicate and respond  while in a very complex metabolic relationship ..

all very interesting i think...here is the abstract but listen to it if you can...as with most things today..you have to pay to see the entire study..why?..when most research is paid for by the government?? which used to be us!

well here is... You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I was just pointing out in a polite way an incorrect use for the term "Herxheimer reaction". Meant no disrespect.
