Coconut oil - any feedback?
« on: March 29, 2005, 08:29:19 PM »
Hi All
A newbie here.  I've had P for 25 years, mild plaque at first but recently elevated to the grand status of guttate, now that's a treat!  Anyway, my skin now swings between severe and moderate, but my scalp is the worse - it's covered and now I can't wear any colour other than white on the top, as it looks like a snowdrift on each shoulder!!   Currently use COCOIS every other day.

For my bod I use Doublebase and Vaseline, interspersed with steroid creams.  Having used them for the last 20 years though, I'm trying to minimise the use now.  Have tried Dead Sea salt in the bath for the last month and there's a slight improvement, plus the shampoo made my scalp slightly better.

I've heard coconut oil can be relieving for the scalp - has anyone tried it?

Any feedback very welcome.  So glad to see there's quite a few of us flakeys out there and others understand the plight!

Minx
:)

Welcome to the Forum Minx. I believe there are a number of shampoos that contain coconut oil but I don't know offhand if you can get it pure. I'm sure someone on here will know.

 Minx,

I use organic coconut oil for my skin  ( i dont have P on my scalp) and I like it.

it's a very good moisturiser and you can get it from most health food store. try to get organic one preferably.

I used pure coconut oil for a while on my scalp and found it was ok, but i have found that hemp oil is effective.

I haven't used it for a while as scalp is ok at mo. Unfortunately the body shop have discontinued it. If you do a google search there are a few websites that sell it. Not sure if H & B sell it :-/

i use it great stuff, and it's easy to apply as it's solid and then melts on your head  ;)

Thanks Marie, I shall have a look tomorrow in Sainsbury's, is it just hemp shampoo or oil i look out for? and I shall look in Holland and Barrats, Internet takes too long so I would rather just buy. I did used to use coconut oil when my P was very mild but to be honest, did not work for me, am I the only one who is abnormal? everything that works for you guys just does not work on me! :-/ in the words of my mother 'Heidi, you just HAVE to be different!' ;)
