I went totally dairy and beef related products free for 12 weeks - the length of time a hospital allergy specialist said was needed to be sure to show up any allergies. It made absolutely NO difference to my P, but I got very grumpy, as it was pretty impossible to eat out when away on holiday >:(

I went "on the wagon" for 6 months too - no improvement there either.

I am also totally gluten free, as even the slightest contamination has me chained to the loo for days! My P is "severe" even with Humira, and I am now waiting to join John Boy on Stelara.

As many people have said - we're all different, with different triggers etc. I just wish mine was diet related and I could do something about it myself.

How interesting. I spoke to my derm about diet and it's effects and she said that that was rubbish.

Yet in 1988 or thereabouts, my British derm told me that the link between dairy and P was well-known.

He advised me that if I totally gave up dairy (amongst other things), my P would clear.

That was over 20 years ago.

So either your Derm is waayyy behind the times, or not yet caught up!  ;D

No - because I didn’t pay any attention to him in 1988.

At that time I was a silly teenager who (besides being a cheese addict), wanted to be able to.....”have my cake and eat it too”, without any lifestyle restrictions.

However, I totally gave up dairy (amongst other things) in late 2007, and my P started to clear.

Then in early 2008 I started to add raw juice to my daily diet.

Due to a combination of diet and juicing, I have now been 100% clear of P since May 2008.

Whatever is left is up to you.

When I was a teenager I wanted “it all”, so never listened to dietary advice in regards to P.

But nowadays my viewpoint is...........if you are desperate enough to clear your P (or whatever disease) you will make the necessary “sacrifices” required.

I personally made the necessary “sacrifices” to help with health issues and now have been reaping the benefits for the past (almost) 2 years.

And there is the CLUE!

12 weeks is a good indication for allergy tests.

BUT......

Actually detoxing and recovering (from years and years of eating dairy & beef) takes a lot longer than 12 weeks.

So I doubt you would see results after only 12 weeks, especially if you are still continuing with other detrimental foods.

Drugs are “quick fixes”. But changing diet (often lifelong dietary habits) and seeing tangible results, takes a lot longer than 12 weeks.

Lazza was spot on......no wonder so many people “fail” with diet.

Well, thanks for that! As I'm already gluten free don't think I could deal with dairy free as well anyway. I now only eat fruit, veg, chicken, fish and limited dairy - mainly just skimmed milk, no ready meals etc or processed food, with only the occasional glass when desperate, I'll just have to bow to you and retire into my corner gracefully!

hk, everyone is very different when it comes to psoriasis trigger foods.  With dairy I believe the problem has to do with casein, the protein found in dairy.  After a lifetime of consuming dairy w/o problem it can suddenly confuse your immune system, as it did with me.  Total elimination improved my psoriasis most definitely within a few short days.  And 90 days seems like a generous amount of time to see if dairy is problem for you.  But to MadCat's point, one's innards can be ruined after years of eating junk foods.  Sometimes early warnings are given, like bouts with irritable bowl syndrome, and sometimes no warning is given and you get walloped with something nasty (like psoriasis).  You can be dairy intolerant but other factors in your gut (and elsewhere) can still be overwhelming your immune system.

So my thoughts:

1) Dairy is really not a good food; don't believe the marketing hype from the dairy industry.

2) If you see no improvement in your psoriasis after eliminating dairy/gluten from your diet I suggest doing a colon cleanse.  IMHO, this can be safely accomplished through mild herbal supplements.  This can take many weeks to complete.  While on it I suggest keeping dairy/gluten off your diet.

3) Still no improvement after going gluten/dairy free and doing a colon cleanse?  I would ask my doctor for a complete set of food allergy tests.

No, food is not the root cause of psoriasis for everyone.  But I think it is best to overturn every stone in ruling it out.

Oh, now I get it. The penny has dropped.

My comments on this dairy issue must have upset your apple cart.

This must be the reason for your aggressive first post in my juicing thread?

But honestly, 12 weeks is not long enough for most people to notice a difference.

From the time I changed my diet to the time I cleared was nine months: six months with just diet (including green smoothies), and then three months with the added juicing.

The link for this film has just been forwarded to me; it may interest you because of your dairy comments.

The feature film Forks Over Knives examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods:
