Dust mites - an antagonist for psoriasis ?
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:16:30 PM »
Dust mits have previously been linked to eczema.Their fecael matter is a form of protein which a great many of people are allergic to. I'm wondering if there is infact a link with psoriasis...

Dust mites feed on dead skin around the house. They live in carpets and most importantly within the matress, pillows and duvet. Could it be that the increased shedding of dead skin associated with psoriasis could infact feed and attract more and more of these creatires? Therefore worsening symptons of psoriasis. We could infact be part of a viscious cycle where increased skin shedding increases exposure to dust mites.

This ofcourse is only an issue if the individual is allergic to dust mites, but as i say its a very common allergy and has been lnked to skin, breathing and joint problems.

Recent research has shown that actually, although genetics play a part, it is environmental elemnts that worsen psoriasis. The body seems to be inappriately dealing with antagonists due to enironment immune memory problems:

Dust mites may not be the cause of psoriasis but the increase of skin shredding could add to our problems.

What can one do?1. Buy a matress protector that stops dust mites getting through to thematress. This is fairly cheap and worth it.
2. Buy sleeves for pillows that protect against dust mites
3.Buy a sealed dust mite proof duvet
4. GET YOUR MATRESS AND PILLOWS STEAM CLEANED. a great many duvets and matress are infact never cleaned in theirlifetime and can be full of bacteria and mites causing irritation to inflamed skin.

Or buy a steam cleaner with built in vacuum (to remove the eggs)  for the home (a good one is around 500 pounds). It could however be worth the investment as carpet and sofa and matress cleaning will cost you around 150pounds a time.

The best two for the money are:
The SteamBee Steam 'n Vac
or the:
polti animal
