evening prim rose
« on: November 06, 2003, 03:21:49 PM »
hello,

I like many others have tried everything for P, just recently my P has started to flare up. after a trip to the herbalist shop, i now have some evening prim rose tablets and some vitamin D tables, which are supposed to help your nervous system and stop you getting stressed. (not that I think I stressed)

also has anyone tried altering their diet, or dare I say it cut out alcohol as I hear this is one of the causes and I am considering cutting it out if it works!

Hi Eddy
welcome to the madhouse  ;D

i have used Evening Primrose oil, and our very own sue will probably be able 2 give you more information, i know she does recomend breakin the capsules and rubbin directly on2 the skin ..

Emma has used the pagano diet with great success, and sure she be along soon 2 give you some advice..

As for alcohol, it has been debated many times, some findin it helps 2 cut it out and others it makes no difference....

hi eddy and a big welcome to the Forum!!  :D

you'll find lots of opinions on the questions you ask if you use the search facility but I'm just responding to the alcohol one!!! I've hardly drunk alcohol for ages now (because I get headaches from it, NOT because I don't like it) and my P is popping away to itself right now ......perhaps if I take UP alcohol???  ???  :)

I think that one of the best things about this Forum is discovering that one thing works for one person and then doesn't for the next - and visa versa. So, for you, diet and no alcohol, evening primrose tablets and Vit D may be exactly what your system responds to!

I have tried every thing mentioned  except giving up alcohol, thats going too far. Putting evening primrose oil directly on the P did not work any better than a moisturising cream. I do take 1x1000 mg evening primrose capsule daily, not convinced that they do anything but reluctant to stop in case they are helping. Tried vit D tablets for a while but didn't notice any effect. Be careful with vit D, do not take more than the reccommended amount as too much can damage your health.

As far as any sort of dietary supplements are concerned you should always be aware of the RDA and not go over it - just because something is natural doesn't make it safe.  The evening primrose oil is something you need to take for a good couple of months before disregarding it as useless - I'd stick at it for three months really.

(It works by helping the integrity of the cell wall) using it as a direct topical application makes a great moisturiser which is easily absorbed and doesn't leave you looking like a grease ball!

Eddy,

I gave up my drinking during pregnancy and P just got worse.  Still now it's getting worse and I certainly have very little time for the beers I once so much enjoyed.

However if you think stopping the drink will help, do it...it's worth a try.  If not just remember to avoid getting dehydrated!  Have a glass of water for every drink.

Hi Eddy,

welcome to the board ;D

I have tried evening primrose capsules... but then stopped (actually don't know why anymore ??? maybe should take it up again ::))

Anyhow I am with sue - be aware of the RDA, especially with Vitamin D as it can cause serious damage, e.g. to your kidneys, if you overdose it (leads to hightened calcium levels in you blood).

I have had good results with fishoil capsules - so if you want to make changes to your diet I encourage you to try whatever you feel comfortable with :) (and of courrse keep us all updated on the results ;D)

sheepful :)
