ferritboy, thanks for your post.  I agree that a major component behind immune system disorders is related to a faulty digestion system.  Taking the long road to improve one's digestion system does often offer relief.  Unfortunately this view is not widely shared in the medical community.  So instead of managing symptoms through dietary means too many folks are told only about powerful and expensive medications.  Doctors should really include diet/supplements up front in their arsenal to treat psoriasis.

Panch: 2-3% of the population have psoriasis, but I believe autoimmune disorders might include as many as 8-10% of the general population.  Beyond this there are other ailments such as eczema and asthma that are often thought of having roots in a defective digestion system.  Yet having said this, certainly there are genetic markers related to psoriasis.  But as we know, just because you have these genetic markers it doesn't mean you will get psoriasis.  Something else, like a wonky digestion system, various infections, or a combination of factors, that induce these genetically predisposed people to develop the disease.

Thanks for all the feed back guy's.. :) I like to hear what other people think!!

I believe that if genes do play a part in p its more than likely a gene that affects the digestive system rather than the immune system directly. I believe that with the right treatment the digestive track can be repaired over time and p cured, I am currently in the process of seeing specialists and having test’s done to put together my own diet and treatment plan like so many other people on here have. When I have done this and succeeded I will work out why it has worked and move on to sustainability and recovery. (: That’s the plan any ways! Wish me luck!! (:

Gotta disagree with you there chum ! Markers in 11 chromosones have already been identified from genes that are known to be associated with the immune system that are directly related to p.

Nonetheless, I'd be interested in how you are going to identify your 'triggers', again something else which is not quite understood  :)

Also, what sort of specialist are you seeing ? And what sort of "tests" are you having ? Let us know before you bombard us with recipes like numerous others on here who's credibility is ...... questionable at best  ;)

Hi Ferrit,
I saw a nutritionist for a while who carried out a whole host of tests, stood, blood, you name it. I cant really remember what most of them were for, but Im fairly sure candida was in there. But with this new lady, none of those yet - Im still just detoxing. Your body cant apparently heal until all the psoriasis is drawn out of the body. I asked her why my exclusion diets hadnt helped me before and she said they wont help until you detox out first (although some people here are just super lucky the diet alone seems to work for them). I am taking a special liquid 3x a day to detox out. She did say when i have finished my detox and the body is 'clean' she will then be carrying out a very finely-tuned allergy test to see if any foods are upsetting me. She couldnt do it eariler as she said everything will flag up as an allergen. Which explains why Ive just got stupid results from other practitioners before in the past naming every damn thing as an allergen. She said it will take 3-6 months for the p to be gone. But she's adament it will be gone. She said she's healed loads of people and people with worse ailments that p. (whatever they are  ???)

Annoyingly Im away on holiday in 12 days and will be forced to eat 'normally' as Im climbing Kilimanjaro and will need the fuel. But she said she can detox that out again when Im back.

The lady Im seeing says that once the psoriasis is healed, (as in the stomach lining [she says its a 'leaky gut' issue amongst other factors]) I will be able to live a regular life. She said I will be able to eat normally again, and drink (just not everyday) etc.

Very interesting. There is always going to be those who believe in modern medicine and those who believe in natural remedy. I don't want to live 120 years in a room with HEPA filters, eating vegetables and no alcohol. So I take a mixed approach that is, use proven medication in combination with some dietary control which works for me. :) :)

Gosh, I hope that was an attempt at humor.  ::)  I don't know of anyone on this forum who uses HEPA filters to control their psoriasis.  No alcohol?  Well I think the general wisdom is to exercise restraint, but this sort of advice is hardly limited to those trying to control psoriasis through alternative means.  Eating vegetables?  Well yes, we do recommend folks eat there vegetables ... as our mothers have been telling us forever.  Maybe it is about time we listened.  ;)

This forum is for both alternative and complementary approaches.  If you have success viewing these concepts as complementary approaches, great.  I view them as alternative approaches, and I continue to enjoy not risking my health with conventional meds and not spending a small fortune on them.  To each his/her own.  :)
