Face Makeup?
« on: February 17, 2009, 12:08:25 PM »
I have P on my face and it's very unhappy at the moment   :'(.  I look as though I have a large red butterfly laying on my face.  Anyway..I would like to know if anyone can recommend a face make-up that won't irritate it.  I try not to use make-up at all, but I do have to leave the house from time to time (hubby forces me) and I can't been seen in public with this mask on!  Recommendations on face wash, and moisturizer would be welcomed as well.

Thanks, ~V~

Sorry, I've never heard of anyone covering up P with foundation.

Hopefully someone here may have.

There are cosmetic camouflages you can try...

Dermablend... You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Covermark... You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Also the Red Cross offer a skin camouflage service... You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I should add that I haven't tried any of these products (only heard of them) so I don't know whether they are effective or not.

Thanks for Christina, I'll check those links right away.

Nltin..can you give me the names of products to look for, and did you get them in the UK.  I remember using a product in the States that had salicylic acid in it..don't remember the name though, but would like to try to find something over here.

David..no I haven't had any tests like that done.  When I was about 13 my dad and I both went to the Shelmire Clinic in Dallas and we were both told we had P.  It started just about the same time for both of us after moving to Dallas from Amarillo.  I have seen Dr's off and on for many years and have tried different treatments.  The first time I saw my NHS GP, I told her I had P and she prescribed Dovenex....WITHOUT bothering to tell me NOT to use it on my face!  When the P started to spread I started checking info online and stopped using it.  I haven't been back to the GP!

David after reading your question about having the rash on my face confirmed, I have decided to contact my GP in the morning and make an appointment with the hope of getting a referral to a dermatologist to find out for sure what this is.  I just assumed that because I have P in other places, that this was P also, but maybe not.  It's like P, but then again, it's different.  At the moment the P on the rest of my body is very mild compared to what is on my face.

I'll let you know how it goes with the GP.  Thanks for getting me thinking!!!

I use ketoconazole shampoo on my scalp & it cleared it within 6 weeks and I had 30-40% of my scalp quite badly effected. I have to use it every other day though to maintain this remission, its been fantastic. I had such good results I started using it on the bits of p I get on my face & it works very well clearing it within about a week. Unfortuately this does not seem to work on my inverse p even though lots of people seem to think there is a fungal liknk with invers p. The p on my face sort of starts as little itchy spots that then form a larger red area but the spots are still defined. If you try this on your face leave it on for 5-10 mins before washing off. What it does is kind of imediately flatens these p areas into a smoth red area that then fades away. Do a google search for ketoconazole and psoriasis its been really great for me & my psoriasis, you can buy it in a cream too which might be better for the face. I am seeing a derm next week & I want an explanation to why ketoconazole works if p is not fungal. The other thing I want explained is why we need synthetic cortisol to improve out psoriasis when out bodies make cortisol, surely our bodies are clever enough to administer it when required to reduce inflammation!! I am conviced psoriasis is an adrenal/hormone problem.

I moisturise, use a Bare Minerals Concealer then use Bare Escentuals mineral powder.  Then I get coverage without feeling like I am wearing a mask!
