Foods that Harm and Foods that heal
« on: April 27, 2004, 03:36:37 PM »
Hi guy's,

I found this Book called foods that harm and foods that heal, it has a part on P there now i hate long posts so i will try to keep it short and sweet.
the books says

eat plenty of
Oily fish for omega -3 fatty acids
A good sorce can be found in mackerel and trout!
cut down on
Offal
Alcohol

after reading throgh some of the bits it also says:
"Recent research has found that suffers have a faulty metabolism of Vitamin D,and a patient may be prescribed the vitamin in the form of an ointment."

Any one herd of that ointment??

Back on the subject of omega 3 and Vit D (large amounts) they have affective anti-inflammatory effect.

It also says that excluding dairy produce, animal fats, meat and spices may help.

and the reason for why your skin becomes sore after drinking alcohol is because it is a vasodilator - it widens blood vessels and increases the blood flow to the skin - which causes the skin to become reddened and warm, exacerbating the itching and flaking of P!!

Hope that isn't to much writing
hope you find it helpful

Hanna xxxxxxxxxx :D

Yep Dovonex is Vit D based ...as is something called Silkis ( essentially the same as Dovonex apart forthe fact that you can use it on the more delicate areas)

I've detoxed a couple of times for a month or so cutting out alcohol, coffee/tea, meat, dairy, wheat, eggs and all processed food.  It was difficult at first but you soon get the hang of the food you can eat (loads of veg, fruit, brown rice, non-wheat bread, chick peas etc).   This has given me the best results I've ever had, from being 90% covered in P to just about 5% in a month.  It's like all 'treatments' though it will probably work for some but not others.   I've just come off MTX as it was affecting my liver and I've just had a rebound effect and am very sore again, so I'm thinking of detoxing again.  Also thinking of acupuncture - any one tried this? I believe it can treat the digestive system.

I really admire anyone who has the wilpower to detox.  I've been reading all the diet threads but

a) I don't have the willpower
and
b) At the risk of upsetting too many people, I have always had a problem with my weight throughout my life.  I am 5'2" and until I was 30 weighed 7.1/2 stones, which was far too skinny.  I have always found it really hard to put on weight.  Eventually I managed to get it up to between 8.1/2 and 9 stone, which I felt happy about, but after being ill with a cold about 18 months ago, although my P didn't flare up then, my weight plummeted back to 7.1/2 stone and ever since then I have been trying and trying to get it up again but can't.  So I daren't do any detox  thing or make any too drastic changes to my diet which might make me lose even more weight.
