Foods we struggle to give up
« on: December 07, 2011, 01:57:48 AM »
No doubt many people here like myself have changed their diet in the hope of improving/clearing their P. As I guiltily chomped into a white roast potato last night at 3am, it got me thinking, what do people really struggle to give up. I am generally applying the Pagano diet and have found my Psoriasis improve by about 50% since I started it a couple of months ago. In summary, still red blotches but not as inflamed. That aside the one "no no" that I have cheated on fairly often is white potato. The rest of the night shades haven’t been an issue. The red meat other than lamb hasn’t been an issue, (although I do love veal Schnitzel) alcohol  hasn’t been an issue (never really a drinker) but white potato I just love. Mashed, roasted, in a jacket, hot chips although less so in respect of them. I just love my potatoes. I tried sweet potato and I don’t mind it but sweet potato mashed is nothing on white potato mashed IMO. The other one I never even attempted to give up is my one daily caffeine hit. I love that morning coffee. On the plus I have re-discovered carrots and celery via the purchase of a juicer and am fairly addicted to a daily healthy juice.

I struggle with tomato, aubergine, chili and peppers.  Especially the tomato ... I love (LOVE) italian food and it's quite tomato based.  Alcohol has been a mid sized difficulty - most of the time it's not a problem but sometimes (especially when going out for a celebration) it's really nice to have a drink!  So the rule for drinking is that during the week it's a NO, and at the weekends it's only a yes if it's an occasion (for example a Birthday Party) and if I can be the designated driver I will take the opportunity and not drink (I'm the designated driver a lot these days).

I gave up meat (though still eating a small amount of fish) earlier this year and thought it would be a struggle but it's been fine.  Considering how much I love the taste and texture and sheer variety of meat it should have been difficult.  The level of inflammation in my psoriasis has improved dramatically.  In November my P patches would start to get really red, by late January they'd be almost purple and so inflamed that they were hot and painful to the touch.  That has not happened so far this year - the patches I do still have left are flaky but not bruise like.

I have always loathed white potatoes so it's been really easy giving them up ...  ;D

CHOCOLATE!!!!  ;D ;D

I'm getting married next year so i've gone back to Slimming World. I've lost 15lb since Sept. I do find eating healthier is making me feel better although sadly its not improved my skin.  >:( :(

Potatoes is one of the foods I've found difficult to give up, but am eating more brown rice these days.
