Friendly bacteria (activa vs yakult etc).
« on: July 22, 2004, 12:36:52 PM »

For those of you who have had good results by taking friendly bacteria I did some research int o what was generally consdiered the best CHEAP form to take these probiotics. As you know the milk based drinks are a) no good if you are lactose intolerant b) some argue the friendly bacteria get destroyed before they reach the colon.

So:

Seven Seas’ Multibionta provides the right strain in the right dosage and comes in an enteric coated capsule which stops the replacement bacteria from being destroyed in the stomach, allowing them to where they are needed - the colon.

Cost £4.49 for 30 tablets (1 month supply)
and are available from most health retailers.

yes it is the right name. you can get them at boots and superdrug now i believe.

regarding omega 3,6,9 they are essential oils and have nothing to do with probiotics so youc an take the two together very easily. In fact they will work in tandem really quite well.

if you find that you still suffer from anxiety then agood B complex vitamin will help calm your nerves. Going on my infeciton theory it has been shownthat a lot of bacteria eats up your b vitamin supply so replenishing it is a good idea.

I have been drinking Muller light probiotic drinks for the last 3 wks dont know if they have helped me any other way, but they have made me go too the toilet regularly(almost to regular).  I tried the Seven Seas Multibionta about a year ago and as they contained Iron had to stop taking them as Iron has the reverse affect on me.

I take Multibionta... have done for a while now.

I just couldn't drink those active drinks.  Not sure why, but the thought just turns my stomach.

So I understand it the whole idea behind taking friendly bacteria actually came about because of the overuse of antibiotics over the years... anyhow, there isn't really enough f.f. in one of those drinks to really help repopulate your bowel after taking antibiotics so you really do need to get a proper pro-biotic.  When I worked for a company that tested for food intolerances we recommended Candida patients to contact a company called 'Biocare' and get a pro-biotic from them.  On their bottle it does state that it needs to be kept cool to keep it fresh and active.  If you're really serious about it I suggest you contact them, just go to msn and type 'Biocare' into the search bar and it should come up.  Happy friendly flora hunting!
