hemp and piriton
« on: March 09, 2010, 12:40:09 AM »
Iv think iv been using hemp cream now for a month and it has improved my p out break but then i itch like fury and its worse when i step out in the cold my skin cracks and it itches like a mad thing possessed.
I started taking piriton which helped ease the itching.

The main problem i have now my skin is always dry. I put cream on day and night and when i wake up in the morning my skin is dry as a bone. The redness is near enough gone i put this down to the piriton.

I just do not know how to fight the dryness of my skin. I figured i need something to lock the moisture in my skin so iv experimented by wrapping my lower arm in cling film after i put cream on it and i just hope this helps.

iv tried a ton of other creams and stuff and diet ,exercise and it just seems this is as good as its going to get. On the 15th iv got a appointment at the hospital to see a dermatologist i hope he is going to offer uv treatment because i would not want to take biological medicine or tablets for my P.

Dead seal salt works well for me when i have very sore and red skin but then the skin flakes come back worse.

The crazy thing is stress brought my p on this time around and it happened a year ago and i got over the stressful time and iv been calm now for months but it still flairs up if i don't use cream 3 times a day.

The day after tomorrow i might go to a herbalist and see if they have anything that can help
Ralph and evens are pretty good they might help.

What are you using exactly?

What brand?

What are the ingredients in the cream?

Are you using Chinese hemp?

Its the only hemp i can get. you can get hemp cooking oil but it stains clothes and would never come out of the bed sheets.

i can buy pure essential oil online.

I am spending £50 a week on the hemp body butter. my skin is much better but its still too dry.
With the piriton it takes the redness and itching away and the cream takes the scales down and the redness too but nothing will conker the extreme dryness of the skin

Hi Kentguy. Lots of sympathy! I have found that Body Shop hemp products irritate my psoriasis because I react adversely to lanolin and other ingredients therein. The Hemp Salve from Yaoh products works very well but it greasy and maybe that company's hemp cream/moisturiser, being less greasy than the salve, might be worth a try, although I haven't tried that yet. Yaoh products are quite pricey. I've recently become an Aveeno convert. The full range of products isn't available in the UK but there are some useful ones in some of the supermarkets and chemists. Boots have a third off the range at present. The Aveeno.ca and usa sites are worth looking at for more information. There's excellent info also about the range on cosmeticsdatabase.com. The products which contain colloidal oatmeal are very effective for treating/soothing psoriasis. I'm so pleased with the ones I've been using that a Canadian friend of mine is going to send me others which aren't available locally.

Well I am NOT surprised that you are “itching like fury”, and still have very dry skin.

Things like lanolin, alcohol, benzyl alcohol, perfume, methylparaben, talc, etc...etc... are bad news in skincare products because as they dry out (and irritate) the skin. And to add to that, the Body shop uses cheap low quality rancid Chinese hemp.

It is good that this hemp product is working for you, but you are causing your own itch and dryness by using it. So if you are otherwise happy with this product, you may just have to sufferer the other consequences.

The hemp oil I used was 100% pure cold-pressed virgin Australian (best quality) oil, mixed with African shea butter. I rubbed it on after a shower in the morning and it didn’t stain my clothes.

Something like this:

Have you thought about hydrating your skin from the inside too? Taking a tablespoon of oil every day helps with this, for example ~

Organic flaxseed oil

Many pure cold-pressed oils – including hemp and flaxseed - (whether using on body or consuming) spoil easily, so you must keep them refrigerated.

Hemp oil should be sold in bottles that are dark in colour to protect the oil from the light (as you can see in the Happy Planet picture).

Flaxseed oil should be refrigerated in the store when you buy it. If you notice that it tastes like oil paint, throw it away because it means that its storage by the retailer has been compromised and it has gone rancid and toxic.

Hello again. I've done some further research and established that the product I use has been replaced in the USA and Canada by Aveeno Active Naturals Advanced Care Moisturising Cream. There is also a Body Wash. They are not available in the UK but you can buy them online, as I intend to do, at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and feelbest.com I have also had a lot of success with the hemp oil supplied by freshskin.co.uk £15 for 1 litre inc delivery. I've read adverse comments about the quality of Chinese hemp oil on this site and so I asked freshskin about where they source their hemp but didn't receive a reply. I have given all my body shop hemp products to the dustman! Too many irritants for me. I hope you'll have some respite soon.
