Hi btp
The link doesn't take me to a specific yoghurt but I'm sure if it says it has live bacteria and isn't pasteurised it should be OK in terms of probiotics.
The only problem with bought yoghurt is the amount of added sugar which can be quite high especially if you go for low fat, flavoured ones.
Look for a natural yoghurt with no additives and then you can add your own fruit puree which then gives you the prebiotic as well

Hi Ellie

Its the Sainsbury's 2% Fat Natural Yogurt, Basics 500g. Its 44p for half a litre, its just natural Probiotic yogurt, nothing else added. Is all fruit good as a prebiotic? or some better than others?

Thanks for your help ;)

Hi btp
Yoghurt sounds good.
As far as prebiotics go seems like most fruit are good because of phenols.
All berries are specially good.
Nuts seeds and dried fruit (don't go for too much seeds because of omega 6)
Oats
Legumes
Green tea
Red wine (yes!)
Dark chocolate and cocoa (double yes!)
I tend to use a small amount of manuka honey for some sweetness (optional) pureed raspberries or blueberries and sprinkle with cocoa powder
Or I use in my porridge for breakfast or in a curry or a soup. Anything really

Cool! Thanks Ellie, I am using standard honey at the mo for sweetness but your suggestions sound good! Does cooking the yogurt in a curry kill the bennificial bacteria or release more of them? I love a good curry!

Cheers btp

Yes I thought about that after I posted it.
I think it depends on the bacteria but I think most would be killed at a high cooking temperature which is why we cook our food to remove harmful bacteria.
I always put a dollop of yoghurt on the top after serving that way the bacteria are protected from the heat

As well as probiotics, prebiotics are also important, as they feed the beneficial gut bacteria. See above article. Here is an excerpt from it:

"Thanks to the methodological and fundamental research of microbiologists, immense progress has very recently been made in our understanding of the gut microbiota. A large number of human intervention studies have been performed that have demonstrated that dietary consumption of certain food products can result in statistically significant changes in the composition of the gut microbiota in line with the prebiotic concept. Thus the prebiotic effect is now a well-established scientific fact. The more data are accumulating, the more it will be recognised that such changes in the microbiota's composition, especially increase in bifidobacteria, can be regarded as a marker of intestinal health. The review is divided in chapters that cover the major areas of nutrition research where a prebiotic effect has tentatively been investigated for potential health benefits. The prebiotic effect has been shown to associate with modulation of biomarkers and activity(ies) of the immune system."

Prebiotics which include inulin and oligofructose, are contained in many plant foods and especially in leeks garlic, jerusalem artichoke, chicory, onions.

That sucked big time I used the steroid cream for like a year on and off worked really good thought I was cured how dumb of me it came back so iI rarely use it still works but flares up again so I stopped using it for fear off my body getting used to the cream and then when i really need it it wont work so i keep it to a minimum also on what u recomend can I buy it from a store like GNC im hoping to find somthing that works. also for 3 years ive used T- Gel shampoo and its kept my scalp in check still flares up once in a while any ideas thanks.
