I've beaten Psoriasis !
« on: January 23, 2012, 09:40:05 PM »
Hi Everyone.

Just thought I'd share some fantastic personal news and hopfully with sharing this I can help some other people with the dreaded P.

I haven't posted or looked at any P forum for a year or so now but was registered here so must have posted sometime in the distant past about how I had given up hope of ever curing this damned awful affliction.

Here's my P history. Developed P at the age of 18 in my scalp. Luckily it remained confined there until I was 30 after which it started to spread to my lower legs, knees, elbows and recently (I'm 44 in Feb) little spots on my torso. The last couple of winters 2009/2010 it was at its worst. enflamed, painful and very unsightly.
Early in 2011 I came across a P forum thread detailing how P cannot be healed from the outside......only from the inside.
It detailed foods you had to ditch....and the need for vitamin D.....either from the Sun or orally through supplements.
I sit here tonight typing this completely free of P. Gone from every part that was afflicted. After 26 years of Quacks, solutions, steroids, creams, ointments, embarrassment and wasted £s I have beaten P by doing the following.....

1. Positive Mental Attitude. You must decide now you are going to beat this whatever it takes. You are the master of your P...not the other way around.
2. Alcohol and Tobacco are your enemy. Ditch them now for good.
3. Olive Oil is your best friend. Use it as much as you can.
4. Ditch dairy products. Cheese, Milk, Yogurts and Butter.
5. Use Soya Milk / Low fat Spread.
6. Ditch all red meat. Eat only white meat.
7. Ditch all sugary treats. Cakes, Chocolate, Sweets, white sugar and all other things of that ilk.
8. Drink plenty. Keep hydrated always. Water, Tea etc.
9. Ditch white bread. Wholegrain or Brown is the answer.
10. Get yourself out into the sunlight as much as you can. In summer get over the embarrassment and get your shorts and T Shirt on. The Suns rays are the best thing for P. (Be sensible and don't burn of course).
11. Keep your skin moisturised always. Aqeous cream is as good as anything.
12. Finally...and this was the final piece of the jigsaw that blitzed my P. Go to your GP and ask him for a blood test for Vitamin D defeciency. It is my belief most P sufferers have a lack of Vit D, then you may well be lacking too. Get yourself a daily Vitamin D3 in Olive Oil supplement. I have the highest potency.....but you can ask your GP advice about what to get.

I know the above list may be a big ask for some people.....but you really have to ask yourself just how much you want to beat this disease. I did. I have also lost a stone and a half ! It's a win win deal. If you can get the VitD3 from your GP on prescription it wont even cost you a penny.

I am now totally convinced that P has definite origins in a lack of Vit D and bad diet. I have never felt so confident and healthy as I do in the last couple of months. If I can do it......then so can you. Look again at my list....and decide now. The P is going to go !

I really hope this helps someone do the same as I have done.

Regards......A non P sufferer (anymore).  ;)

Hmmm, I feel that I have just been preached at.  But I don't mind that, it has been done before. And it will no doubt be done again.

If this remedy for P is so simple, then why does not every Derm in the world know about it? And, more importantly, why don't they tell us sufferers about it?

unfortunately a consultant cannot advise that a person needs to change diet to see results they are just salesman for the pharmaceuticals - you must know that by now.. whinswood is clear so i am - and why partly thru a healthy diet - i.e no cakes sugars etc - and yes a bif of a life change for some but hey its either you want p or you dont as whinswood says in point 1 and for me i chose to go down that path.. and today i reap the benefits.. so dont know your background mullinde but you too have that choice do you want it or dont you...

Because Derms are not so naive to think that you are able to cut down on those all wonderful foods. Moreover, it is almost impossible to fast without your own free will. You are strongly convinced that all those yummy, delicious, tempting products are your staple diet, they due you and you'll not survive without them. That's why you always fail and nothing is gonna change this. You will always tell that ,,someone" is trying to ,,malevolently" preach at you. It's ridiculous. But it is a human nature..

@ Mullinde.

The last thing I wanted to do when returning after a 9 month absence to this forum was to preach.

I stand in front of the mirror now and I still cannot believe after 26 years of suffering I am P free.

I am happy....but also angry at the wasted years of continuous frustration with the medical profession who push remedies that DO NOT WORK.

People who take medicines for P are ''Papering over the cracks of their house walls when their house is subsiding''. You need to tackle the foundations themselves. With P this means a complete overhaul of your dietary habits and to make sure your body is getting enough Vit D.

There are many people who would rather live with P than give up booze, cigs and c**p food. I decided 9 months ago I was not one of those.

What is so hard about saying no to a few certain foods and drinks ? People with P have to realise that there are many people who just cannot live the modern unhealthy way and not have a side effect. Some people can of course....but are they really the ''lucky ones'' ?

I think not. I implore people with P to give this a 100% go for 3 months. You will never look back.

Ultimately it boils down to determination and how much you want to live a P free life.

It's either this.....or keep pumping the c**p foods and medicine into your body.

I hope the majority take my advice. I really do.

I have had a time when i was free of p while on a very strict following of not eating the above things and i was a lot better (and lighter) , this also coincided with me being relatively new on ciclosporin so i didnt know at the time how much was that.

However, medical doctors/derms have relatively little training in nutrition and they are quick to hand out presriptions

I run a pet supplies business, i see all the time people coming to me with dogs which have problems (itchy skin etc) which have been put on steroids and various to control this. Having spent a lot of money on meds they are then having expensive tests and usually are on food sold at the vets on prescription as well. And it ends up being controlled in a limited way with the combination of drugs and diet. But not completely.
There is something that doesnt seem to be covered by their tests, maize (corn) which is used as a cheap filler in dog food and is usually one of the main ingredients in the prescription dog foods too.
I have found that by careful choosing of the dog food they buy in the shop we can eliminate the problem altogether with the dog not needing meds. Usually within four to six days, sometimes sooner.

So i use this as a comparison, quite often it is what we put in.........
I should be doing the same but have kinda fallen off the rails there at the moment

Without knowing if this treatment works or not (I am starting something very similar on the advice of someone here - I do feel I should point out something.

Consultants cant just say "this works people have told me so so do it". Trials have to be conducted and then re-conducted before being given as a course of treatment. The people who fund most of these trials are the the drug companies. Why would they fund something that doesn't bring them profit.

I really believe there is a reason the most effective treatments are the most expensive - and that's profit. All the major drug companies have treatments available for psoriasis - all targeted at a different group. Dovobet, not very good for most P sufferers - but widely prescribed = lots of profit. Humira not so widely prescribed but very expensive. They all have equilibrium with use verses cost. There is a cure out there, but why research it, we would all stop using their 'products' it would not be cost effective.

Thant's just my view, but I am on a downer right now - in so much pain and feel like no one wants to rush to help me

Thats fantastic good for you!

I have organised a quit date to stop smoking to see if it helps clear P and for general good health. so fingers crossed it will make a improvement on the P just for that extra bit of motivation.
