I HAVE CURED MY PSORIASIS THROUGH CUTTING OUT WHEAT
« on: September 19, 2011, 09:24:00 PM »
Hello people!
I have specifically hunted down a forum for psoriasis sufferers because i used to have it and don't anymore, and i want other sufferers to know how i got rid of it. i spoke to a nutritionist who advised me to cut out wheat from my diet (or cut down... anything helps)... as well as avoiding food with lots of E numbers and too much alcohol/coffee. generally it was avoiding unhealthy food but the one that was surprising was the wheat. i have never looked back! i also used to suffer from a heat rash which severely impacted on my life as i would become unbelievably itchy and covered in hives any time i did ANY exercise (literally walking would set it off) or had a sudden change of temperature (eg took a shower, went in the sea). that also vanished!
another thing i wanted to recommend was applying pure glycerin to your skin. it is the ingredient in the vast majority of beauty products like shampoo, body lotion etc etc and you can buy it pure for literally £1.50 from the pharmacy (unless you are diabetic, apparently). i also swear on it as cough medicine but one day i saw on the bottle it said 'can also be used to treat skin conditions' so i decided to try it. it is a strange sensation as it is very gloopy but after an hour or so your skin will be softer than it has ever been!
anyway i really really recommend you try what i have advised, i wouldn't have made all this effort unless i thought is was a terrible thing NOT to share what i have found with other people!

p.s. DON'T use steroid creams as they only treat the symptom and not the root cause of the problem.... they just exacerbate the problem in the long term!

Thnx for tht info petralang,I too have found tht cutting out wheat helps tremendously.  It does how ever take along time to see improvement.  Also there has been much discussion on cutting out wheat and using glycerine on the whats the alternative board here on this forum.

thanx for sharing though.  I knw if you find something tht works, u just wana tell everyone coz u want them to stop suffering like you have. I think its very nice of u to search for this forum just so you could pass on ur good experience in the hope tht it may help others.

Great, thanks petralangstrumpf

Hey, can you tell us how long it took to see the improvement? How long before you saw a 'slight' improvement?

I have read your comments with interest. I suffer from psoriasis but my brother in law was far more affected than me to the extent that my sister took him to A&E in desperation when his suffering became too much. All the psoriasis treatments he had received had proved ineffective. One of the nurses recognised his condition and he was diagnosed as being caeliac ie allergy to wheat. He started on a gluten free diet and his condition improved greatly. I would be interested to know whether any research has been done on the relationship between psoriais and wheat allergy. I wonder whether many caeliacs go undiagnosed because it is thought they have psoriasis? The outward signs are very much the same. I eat wheat products, and, as far as I am aware, this has no effect on my psoriasis.

I eat wheat products, and, as far as I am aware, this has no effect on my psoriasis.

That is what I thought too, for over 35 years.

I gave wheat / gluten up (amongst other things) as part of the raw vegan lifestyle. My P cleared up.

Two years later I tried to reintroduce wheat, and my P flared up again.

And every time I have tried to reintroduce it since, the same thing happens.

And yet, I am not officially allergic to wheat and I don’t have celiac disease.

I don't suffer from insanity....I enjoy every minute of it!

I do recall a small study where 15% of psoriatics responded favorably to a gluten free diet.  Larger studies have not shown such results.  I think it is certainly fair to say eliminating gluten is helpful to some psoriatics, and most certainly to those psoriatics who also suffer from celiac disease.

I recently cut out meat and saw 50% reduction in my psoriasis,i get protein from seafood and nuts and tofu. After seeing this post i cut our wheat and dairy too. That was only a few days ago and all of my areas have lost there redness and its taking longer for skin to build up.I hope this is the key.It would be nice to be able to wear shorts and go to a swimming pool without getting stared at. Now if i could just something about my buck teeth, kidding haha. :D
