I want to RIP my SCALP OFFFF!!
« on: April 22, 2010, 03:25:44 PM »
Nice catchy title I hope it lures many people in to discuss some old + new scalp psoriasis treatments.

My scalp psoriasis is getting really bad at the moment, it isn't itchy but I'm sick of being covered in a crusty layer or dried dead skin, totally limiting what I can wear.

I have tried
Polytar (Makes it worse)
Alphosyl (Makes it worse)
Dovobet which is amazing, it clears the psoriasis on my ears but I don't want to use this 24/7.
Etrivez 500 mg shampoo (doesn't work even tho i've only used it 2-3 days on the run)
Hemp Oil + Hemp Conditioner
Coconut conditioner with Rosemary Oil added to it.
Neutrogena Tgel (Makes it worse)
Nizoral  (Does nothing)
ketoconazole (Does nothing)
Ceanel (Removes a lot of the scales followed by a conditioner)
Very expensive conditioners with hemp oils and SLS free (loosens scales)

What can i try next, I need something, I'm going to go to the doctor and ask for Vitamin D3 Analogue shampoos, seems the only thing that worked was dovobet

What I have in mind is

Fushi Scalp Soother Oil  but its £19.00
Selsun £4.99
Faith In Nature Tea Tree Shampoo £4.60
Weleda Rosemary Hair Lotion £6.99
Australian Tea Tree Anti Dandruff Shampoo £4.66
Green People 10 Itch Away Shampoo £9.21
Dead Sea Spa Magik Mineral Shampoo    £6.17

Love to hear your thoughts

I use topicote lotion when my scalp is bad and also behind my ears. It works very well for me. The rest of the time I use Denorex shampoo and that keeps it under control mostly. Polytar shampoo isn't available in Holland but the Denorex is almost the same. Hope you find something that works for you soon.

Sorry to hear your suffering. I'm getting on good with Greenpeople shower gel followed by a good smearing of coconut oil. Its certainly keeping the flakes away up there!

Good luck

Hi Sorry to hear your not having much luck with most treatments given for you scalp,I used Cocios ointment when my scalp was really itchy and bad..Although i know its a treatment you have to leave on for an hour (or overnight as i did for a week) an not everybodys the same.I also used tea tree shampoo and conditioner (From the shop) which helped to sooth my head.

Ive recently stopped using the Cocios and im just currently using T-gel shampoo which you say you've tried.
Hope this helps you  :)

You need to try Tgel shampoo.  You can buy it over the counter in chemists.  It costs around £4.50 and works very well.  I keep a bottle in the bathroom and just use it every now and again and it works for me.

I have also tried the other products which you have listed without success.

I use Dermax Shampoo and Dovonex scalp solution (which stings like mad when the P is bad or you've had a crafty scratch).  Synalar gel is nice and gentle and non greasy.

I've still got around 30% P on my scalp though.  I've also made my own shampoo which was a combination of head and shoulders, rosemary oil and dead sea salts.....didn't work but I smelt divine!

Best wishes finding the right combination for you!

NB: I think I saw the ingredients for the home made shampoo on PHO, don't know who to credit it to sorry

Hi Mojow - sorry to hear the hassle you are having with your scalp. I'm on meds now so scalp good - but I have had years with bad crusty scalp. I too found alot of the products you used c**p also - polytar - made mine worse too and T-gel - I think this is only really for a case of dandruff !!

The best treatment I found was warming some olive oil in the microwave for about 30-50 sec in the mircrowave and then massaging to the scalp warm. I would leave it in overnight and wash out with Capasal shampoo (twice) in the morning. I continue this for a few days in a row and when the plaques get practically flat I would apply Betacap scalp application. Then I would wash my hair once a week in the capasal shampoo and generally the plaques would stay away for at least a few weeks at a time. It worked for me.

Best of luck
Marie

I doubt Selsun or Tea tree shampoos will do much as they are more anti-fungal based for seborrheic dermatitis.  Certainly Selsun never did anything for my P.

What I would suggest is Psorin scalp gel.  I think you can get it without prescription.  It contains 0.25% dithranol and some salicyclic acid.  It's sticky and needs a double wash to get it out but it was quite effective for me.  I also found it soothing after brief irritation the first couple of applications.

Have you looked at a Dermalite 80 unit?  Might be worth a look if you continue to have no luck with topicals.
