I recently communicated with David Hoskings in Australia. I think this guy speaks alot of sense. While we would all love to think using say a natural/organic product is the best way to sort scalp psoriasis, it does not always work.
over the last 6 months i have spent a ridiculous amount of money on natural products, whose websites makes big claims.
most of it is overhyped and sure to disappoint. What they SHOULD say is the product MAY help you, but most do not. They are probably no better than most ultra mild shampoos. They cannot really deal with the mechanism of superfast cell recycling that produces the scalp scaling, and i think at most, they simply hydrate a bit. That is NOT going to have much effect on the scalp psoriasis.
After coming close to my wits end, after reading David's comments, i agree that sometimes its best to use proven things like coal tar, or possibly salicyclic acid. Both have an effect, coal tar slows the skin recycle, and salicyclic helps lift the scaling.
Whilst i was ready to order David's scalp solution, i decided as a last shot, to go back to trying T-Gel, using it as directed, and initially using it 3/4 times a week. I immediately follow the T-Gel with Boots Naked mild shampoo. It gives my hair a bit more softness, as the T-Gel can be pretty drying due to its effect as a treatment shampoo.
I use the Naked Mild shampoo on the in between days, and do a double wash, as being a naturally based shampoo, it lathers great on the second wash.
Please note,i use this shampoo purely for the fact it does not irritate in between the T-Gel. no other reason
For now i've decided to lay off conditioners, as i suspect they may be problem for me.
I would say that this regime may not give your hair the very best cosmetic feel, but i'll take that any day over a dry itchy red scaly scalp!
interestingly, i checked the ingredient list on the Skin Deep website, and this shampoo is very mild indeed.
I had been using Pso Natura, but i felt it was doing nothing for the scaling, and at £23 a go, not worth the cost, for a shampoo that acted simply as a mild shampoo.
After just 2 weeks,my scalp is much much better, back to a nice very pale pink colour, and at the front in particular where i'm very thin on hair, pretty much scale free.Whether it stays this way, time will tell, but at last i'm out of the tunnel.
David's approach, which is a 2 week intensive coal tar/salicyclic in olive oil based product, applied at night and left overnight, shampooed out in the morning, sounds to me, realistic at helping clearing the scaling. He then advises a maintenance of something like T-Gel a couple of times a week, with a good mild shampoo in between.
If I find things get bad again, i will not hesitate to try it. He is very good at getting back if you email, with a very supportive attitude. Well, that's what i found.
Don't get me wrong, natural stuff may help YOU, but if not, it may be worth trying something like above.
You may, like me, have to go through a very frustrating and emotionally draining process of trying this and that, and i wish you all the best in your personal efforts.
Caz, all the best, i can sense how trying its been for you this far.
