[quote author=. In the mornings the patches are very faint, and fade even more immediately after a shower and good moisturising.  They redden a bit over the day, but are not itchy, are flaking minimally,

I've often noticed on NORMAL FLAT BEDS that Psoriasis is 20-30% faded upon awakening ..for the first few minutes...

so what happens whilst one sleeps?..

..I would hypothosize (especially seeing it happens on flat beds) that it is not to do with circulation but rather that Theta brain cycles (which are also produced during sleep cycles ) can reduce Cortisol secretions up to 97%..

Cortisol is the main stress hormone that aggravates Psoriasis....

Hi Pedro

Thanks for raising this point, hopefully we will learn more as time passes from more people reading the points raised by you and the previous author. I must mention however that a lot of people complain about itching and becoming restless sleeping on a flat bed and find there is often an increase in reddening overnight.

Acne also follows a similar pattern with skin eruptions taking place predominantly at night. It may well be secretions of hormones that increase or decrease but we need to figure out why these secretions are changed during inclined sleep.

In Parkinson’s disease, levadopamine or Ldopa is introduced to improve motor function, yet on an inclined mattress the body either begins to manufacture it’s own or the uptake from the drug is increased, because people with Parkinson’s using inclined therapy have responded to the point where medication has been reduced in order to reduce overdose symptoms.

I do not have all of the answers and probably never will but there is something going on in the body while it is inclined that requires many controlled medical trials for many medical conditions and I doubt very much these studies will be forthcoming in the foreseeable future, which is precisely why we are trying to gather more anecdotal evidence, so any contributions such as your own observations and thinking are most welcome, particularly so if you experiment with posture and report any differences on this forum.

Inclined bed therapy is where one's bed is raised 4 to 8 inches at the head by using bricks, wedges, or blocks to raise it. This can be useful in varied disorders including spinal cord injury, back pain, acid reflux or GERD, sinus and respiratory disorders, sleep apnea, poor circulation, low metabolism, edema in the legs, and many other conditions.

I started this last night. I raised my bed around 5 inches. For the first time in my life I slept through my alarm:o

I will do this for the next 4 weeks and see what happens. I will try anything because my scalp is a mess.

Take some photographs of affected skin for later, will prove very useful.

Thanks

Hi

I have been doing this since August 11th 2009 and no improvement.  :(

I am going to continue with the incline though as I enjoy sleeping this way ;D

Great, keep going and report any differences you notice, including sleep quality, itching, itching during the night, increased / decreased reddening good or bad positive or negative it all matters and can prove very useful.

Thanks again for helping out with this study.

all the best for the future

Andrew.

Update regarding Helen's progress.

Her skin still looks great, even though she now sleeps flat, yet she has recently began reporting erruptions of psoriasis on elbows, knees, legs ankles despite continuing with the fish oils, folic acid, evening primrose oil.

This for me at least is interesting in that it has taken a long time for her skin to begin to show a return of psoriasis and pretty sure her bed will again be tilted should her condition worsen considerably, will keep you posted as soon as here some more, she is coming to Wife's birthday party tomorrow fingers crossed, might even get some more photographs of her skin for the forum.

Best

Andrew

Andrew there has been without a doubt a significant improvement in quality of my sleep that is why I want to continue with the incline therapy. I will keep you posted regarding any change in my skin.

Thanks

Helen reverted back to sleeping flat for many months now. She continued with the suplements mentioned previously as cod liver oil, fish oil, evening primrose oil and folic acid.

Helen's skin is continuing to revert back to how it was before she tilted the bed.

Will get some more photographs and take them next to a newspaper for authenticity.

Helens skin continues to worsen and she still remains sleeping horizontal. The psoriasis on her legs is almost the same as before she tilted her bed. She continues to take cod liver oil, evening primrose oil, folic acid and fish oil, so we can eliminate those from her previous reports and improvements.

Struggling to understand why she has her bed flat again and is experiencing considerable psoriasis flare. Great for my research but not so great for Helen.

Will continue to update as and when and hopefully with more photographs.

Andrew
