M-FOLIA SHAMPOO/OIL
« on: November 06, 2010, 01:17:36 PM »
Hello,
has anyone used these to good effect.
for years i have used Tgel, with a very mild  shampoo in between. This year i've tried to use non SLS shampoo. sometimes its ok, sometimes the scaling is still there to some degree. the T-gel tends to leave my scalp looking a pinky-red, as if its stripped the scalp. But it seems better than all the other conventional treatment shampoos/ steroid scalp products i tried.

i've tried over the last few months,
Salcura, shampoo absolutely no effect, the intensive spray made my skin very red and angry. PSO Natura, good at itch control, zero on scaling.
nirvana natural, seemed to cause the scale patches to look more prominent and red.the conditioner is very good though.

i decided to give m-folia a try.
i'm on my 4th day. this morning after using the oil at night, leaving overnight, my scalp looked quite red right up to my hairline.
scaling at the front of my scalp, which is quite visible due to thin hair, looked  worse than previous.
does this product sometimes show a worsening before getting better?
taylor jackson said m-folia trials were conducted over 12 weeks, and that is a realistic time frame.

i felt  low this morning as i didn't expect to see things this worse.

i know alot is said about products containing parabens, sls, tar etc, but is it possible that certain  natural ingredients/oils in alternative products can also be irritating on a sensitive scalp?

Well, i just realised from a google browse that this is actually oregon grape.
I wonder why the supplier does not use this better known name for the main ingredient.
I doubt i would have bothered to buy had i been aware, as i looked into it last year and i did not think the feedback on the net was that positive.
And i also found an article that says the trials conducted with this are flawed to some extent.

I know this sounds very negative, but i have a feeling that this is going to be just like the Salcura episode.
My confidence in natural products was severely shaken after spending over £100 with them, only to see a gradual worsening.
I'm now also very sceptical about website testimonials, in particular the "i was cured in a few days" or " after one use the psoriasis was gone"type.

Following the state of my scalp this morning,I've decided to stick with T-Gel and try to find the best in between shampoo and some sort of scalp moisturiser at night..

my thoughts regarding so called natural "treatment" shampoos, is don't waste your hard earned money.
Apart from costing alot, they probably do nothing to clear scalp psoriasis. Maybe like me, make things worse. I'm even dubious of some of these ridiculous "testimonies" where for example, the condition was "cured" after one use! I really do think that the perceived idea that natural ingredients are harmless may be flawed. How does anyone know if you may react badly to some herbal ingredient?
I have read of an instance where a person used a naturally derived scalp oil and it caused a serious reaction that took weeks to calm.
My other big issue is with the totally unrealistic expectations set by the website hype of many products. Recently i contacted a company regarding a naturally based arthritis product and asked for some proper user reports to back it up. Needless no such thing was available. It just comes across as a money make, working on poor people's desperation for something to work.I'm guilty of that for sure. I want to be rid of scalp psoriasis, but not at these people's expense.
I'll certainly be far more careful where i put my money.Interestingly when it comes to money back guarantees, well, lets not go there.
Of course YMMV, and that's fair enough.
Anyway, enough of all this, i deeply feel for everyone here in their personal struggles, i wish you well. I sincerely hope that you, like myself, will eventually find something that works.

Hi - I'm new to the forum - always looking for news esp on links to possible causes for Psoriasis - but I noticed this topic and thought I'd add my experience. I have tried M-folia Shampoo & Scalp Oil. Worked really well and I now use it regularly alternating with Simple Shampoo just so I don't get immune to the M-folia. M-folia has a nice smell and very pleasant to use. I was pleased that it was SLS-free but wondered about the preservatives. I called and asked - apparently, they have to have them in to ensure shelf life and to meet requirements of FDA & Health Canada as it is an approved treatment for Psoriasis in North America.

I'd highly recommend M-folia and when buying multipacks it isn't too expensive - about £10 a bottle that lasts me a 6-8 weeks.

Hi Angie,

I'm pleased to hear you've had a good result.  :)I must admit to feeling a bit low when i posted my last comments.
Its obviously a case of each person's psoriasis reacts differently.

Hi, I don't have much p on my scalp really but if it's any use to you I use M-Folia cream and ointment on my body and it's slow, unspectacular and will never clear it but it works well enough to control the worst bits, slows the spread and greatly reduces flaking so I use it as a sort of management tool over winter. I normally use Dovonex for this which works well but didn't want my skin to get too used to that. Tgel works well for scalp and around ears.

Just another question, does anyone have scalp psoriasis where rather than fine scale, the scalp dries through the day into quite large, say fingernail size, areas of very thin dry skin which looks like its peeling at the perimeters?
I have a bad habit of trying to gently peel this dry skin, thinking it will not lift on its own!
That then leaves me with very tender raw skin, which i'm unsure how to treat. I usually put on a cream moisturiser to try soothe it.
I'm finding this difficult to sort. Scalp liquid topicals have never worked for me, they irritate badly.
I have been in contact with David Hoskings in Australia. I may try his scalp treatment if things do not improve in say 3/4 weeks.
After feeling in a limbo, i've decided to give Pso Natura shampoo another shot, along with their cream, which when it arrives, i intend to put on at night and leave on overnight before using the shampoo each morning.
I've been using the shampoo for about a week. Scalp looks less red, but i have the dry patches mentioned above. I'm hoping the cream may help.
David's product is a fairly concentrated Coal tar and salicyclic acid in an olive oil base, kind of a supercharged T-Gel.
I'd like to see if the gentler approach works before trying it.

I purchased this shampoo/oil and conditioner pack and I've been using it for about 10 days but he results so far have not impressed me really. Before M-Folia I was having a bit of success with dovonex scalp solution and shampooing with 'dead sea salt' shampoo but I had run out so I started on it. My scalp seems to be a lot more red and the psoriasis seems to have spread although my scalp seems to be less itchy than it was. This stuff isn't cheap and results have not been good yet but I will persevere for a few more weeks before I try more conventional medication again. As well as this my arthritis (I have PSA) seems to have flared up in my left thumb, maybe the methotrexate has stopped working. Very fed up with it at the moment
