Moisturiser question
« on: October 30, 2006, 11:58:05 AM »
Hi all,
I've just bought some of the coconut moisturiser from H and B and am also using a sort of beeswax based ointment that I bought from Napiers that seems to calm my skin down a bit and I'm applying directly onto my lovely spots. My question is that I'm not sure whether to put the coconut oil on first or the ointment stuff on first as they are both quite heavy. i put the coconut oil on first today and now I'm not sure if any of the beeswax stuff has been absorbed by my skin at all.
any advice on this would be much appreciated!
Tah very much,
Ana

Hi Ana,

Is this pure coconut oil from H&B? ... if it is then this will be the best one to use first - as it is a lighter moisturiser (even if it does feel a bit oily)
The beeswax ointment will tend to act more as a barrier (like a waxed jacket!) so probably best if you used that one afterwards.

It should all soak in eventually ;)

Alternatively, you could use the moisturisers at different times of the day - like the coconut in the morning & then the ointment at night.

Hi,
Thanks for replying. i see what you mean now Jade about h and b's coconut oil not being too heavy - the first night I tried it it seemed really greasy - probably because I had about 10 times too much on! So I've tried it since and as you suggested have put the beeswax stuff on afterwards and it works a treat. I am so happy because I think this is about the first moisturiser I've ever used which hasn't made me want to tear my skin off and scream!
Thanks again to this forum for all the great suggestions!

Hi Ana,

Glad to hear that it is helping you - natural things do tend to feel a bit 'greasy' at first but a lot of commercial moisturisers contain a huge percentage of water which often just evaporates on the skin so offers no real long-term benefit.
Natural moisturisers can take slightly longer to soak in but they stay in the skin layers longer & so can feed/heal your skin properly. Its like the difference between slow & fast food  ;)

You'll soon become an expert to what is a 'heavy' grease & what is a 'light' one  ;D xx
