MTX, still flaring! Any natural alternative?
« on: May 08, 2006, 10:45:06 AM »

I have posted this on here, as even though it related to MTX i am asking for alternatives to help me alomg!

As some of you know i am on 20mg per week of MTX for my PA (been back on it now about 3-4 months), this has cleared my P too.

I have booked a well earned holiday, i go in 3 weeks. Anyway -Typically, the past 3 days a patch of P i have on my leg has grown and grown and grown, it now measures 5 inches by 3 inches! I knew it would rear its ugly head just bwefore my holidays, but this is only the 3rd time in 17 years i have been P free, so iknow i shouldn't moan but i wanted to get my legs out with nice fresh skin on them!!

I have been doing the usual mosturier, oil in bath, dead sea salt stuff as i always have done.

I think its re-appeared as i haven't been as regimental with my skin care regime the past 2 weeks. I usually bath in oil and salt every day - the past 2 weeks or so i have been showering more often than not. Im still on top with the misturiser maybe baths 3 times a week instead of 7

I dont want to get on the sunbed, although i know that this usually clears me as last time on was on MXT i burnt like i never have before - causing a massive flare (photosensitive it seems when on MXT)

Can anyone throw anything else into the mix for me? May even go back to the old oat baths! Does anyone still do these?

Going seeing rhumy tomorrow too, PA aint too bad now, well, in comparison to what it was its not! Reckon he may up my dose for a few weeks to get rid of this patch? - even tho is is rhumy not derm he knows that P for me means PA in a closely positioned joint?

I have some dovobate at home, toying with giving that a go, but i dunno!

Thanks for the input folks!

from my understanding:

the alternative route is a diet/life style route which must be followed sctrictly and takes time. there is no alternative to MTX.

however the anti-candida route can be taken along with any topical medication as that works from the inside out.

see my appnt with P...candida link for further info.

Anglea I'm not saying you should as I have no experience with MTX. If it was me I would put a good lash of coal tar on at night before bed then wash it off, put on the dovobet and wrap my leg in cling film till the morning.  I would put the dovobet on again in the morning if going out or if staying in I would put on the coal tar again.  Is it ok to use steroid cream with MTX?  Like I said I have no experience with MTX.  If it is ok, I would fire away just as you have a holiday coming up and I know it must be frustrating as you have been good till now and then bam its out.  Its almost like it knows you are going on hols.  Anway the sun will do it good, just wear a high factor.
