Paul, be aware that most GPs and dermatologists are not helpful wrt alternative treatments for psoriasis.  Of course seeing a dermatologist is important, no question.  I suggest seeing if they will help you get to the root of your psoriasis rather than treat its symptoms (eg, by using MTX or biologics).  For this ask about the possibility of underlying infections or suggest you take a series of allergy tests.  Perhaps testing for your vitamin D blood level is helpful; eliminating a vitamin D deficiency may help your psoriasis, and it is very good to do regardless.

Good luck.  Let us know how you get on.

PS - UV light therapy, although not an alternative treatment per se, is generally a safe treatment course that can be extremely effective.  You might want to ask about it.

I am a little annoyed that my doctor hasn't suggested it before and just kept giving me cream that doesn't do much good to me. I would like to know if any allergies trigger P, I would like to go back to dairy if possible - I miss my fruit corners.

Hi Paul,

your gp and derm is unlikely to suggest dietry change for P.

they really don't get it or genuinely dont believe in it.

i've have seen my derm when my P was really bad and now really good,
he still wont accept it could be diet and vit D3 thats helping.

however he is coming round to the fact that Vit D3 may be a useful vit.

i imagine most P sufferers who have found diet and Vit D3 works for them
probably dont ever see their derms again and so dont mention it to them.

or, as in my case, the gp and derm pretty much ignore that the diet/vit D3 is
helping me, and so make me feel a bit of an idiot.

im sure as time goes on and more folks find diet helps them it will become more
genreally accepted, as it is now re diabetes and heat disease.

good luck with it.

After a few days of trying this diet change (though I've not got into it properly with the juices etc) today I have noticed a slight change on my arms, it may just be that I'm having a good day for a change and not actually improving.

When I figure how tyo do it I'll add photos onto message and my profile for peeps to see my progress.

:: Update ::

I have yet to start the drinks yet, sadly my blender packed in the other day and I'm awaiting a replacement - though I did buy a 'smoothie' book this morning which gives a number of different healthy smoothies which I plan on trying. Also tried lacto free cheese today, its not too bad.

When I first thought about trying this 'diet' I thought it would be very daughting, having to give up dairy seemed impossible, but having actually looked around the supermarket I'm suprised that the alternatives and would like to try the Alpro Soya Yogurt!

Not sure if it is just my imagination but I have noticed a slight improvement in my P, mainly on my arms. I have also gone back to using Xamiol for my face which does work (sadly other creams don't).

Below is an imagine (of me - ain't I a good looking guy :) ) taken on New Years Eve, as you can see the P on my face is pretty bad an visable.

Paul, I wish I had taken pictures of myself since day one.  If I could do it again I would take pictures every 3 weeks or so and carefully compare them, maybe even posting them here for others to judge them as well.  It is really hard to judge psoriasis on a day-to-day basis, and as you know plaques go through some sort of weird morphing when healing and when worsening.  Bizarre.

And yeah, doing daily smoothies brings an early death to most blenders.  I bought a new one when I started but sprung a leak after 3 months.  It replacement is starting to struggle only two months later.

PS - also the psoriasis on your face doesn't look too bad.

To be honest, this blender was my mothers and was older than me so maybe it got a lot of use out of it!

I have also supplemented milk with sweetened soya (Tesco own brand)

A little tip for you:

Some people have a problem with soy / soya making P worse.

And some people have cleared their P after eliminating it altogether.

Pretty much all non-organic soy now comes from genetically modified crops, which has its own set of health issues if recent studies are anything to go by.

As an alternative, you could try things like rice milk, goats milk, fresh coconut milk, oat milk, hemp milk or various nut milks.

Almond milk is very easy to make at home, and really delicious if you use organic or pesticide-free almonds.

Paul, be aware that most GPs and dermatologists are not helpful with alternative treatments for psoriasis.

He He He  ;D – that would have to be the understatement of the century.

A naturopath will help you with supplements and diet.

An allergy specialist can help you with discovering your triggers. Although I discovered most of mine through simple observation / trial & error.
