Nail psoriasis
« on: October 12, 2006, 12:24:49 PM »
Hello everyone,

I have just joined the forum and I have a problem I need help with.  By profession I am a Biochemist but now run my own building business and therefore I need the use of my hands!  After wading through clinical papers etc I have diagnosed myself with having nail psoriasis but I do not have the symptons of P anywhere else on my body.

The biggest problem is the pain and swelling of the first joint on 5 of my fingers.  I have started eating Pumpkin seeds and will wait to see what happens but are there any natural products to combat the joint problems as getting rid of this will also help my nails to recover.  NSAIDs are definately a no no!!!  I am also a little worried about the possibility of joint damage.

Thanks for your help.

MSM works well in joints.

Turmeric

there is a company called simply spices (ggole them) that will sell u kilo bag of the stuff for £4

take 1 teaspoon (3 grammes) a day in milk

It is natural antiinflamatory which also contains antioxidants and a mild antibitotic

Also a good omeag 3 oil like Nutra Sea High potencey or MorEPa at over 2000mg a day

Hi

I use Glucomsamine, although my Rheumy says it's not worth it unless you take at least 1000 mg a day, and also Omega 3 (Eye Q), make sure you take a good quality Omega 3.

I knew someone who also had great results clearing her P with MSM

Check out You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login for supplements - be careful with Holland and Barratt.

If you think it is PA you might want to do some research first before deciding on whether to go the soley on the alternative route.

I do hope it is not PA but nail P is the first sign of PA

Take care and let's know how you get on.   8-)

Thank you very much to all who replied - a lot of info here from you all.

Im certain it is PA as the first joint of 5 of my fingers are swollen and a little painfull.  Strange thing is I had the same on both my big toes and one of my little toes but the swelling and pain have gone completely and I did nothing at all??  Hve been on pumpkin seeds for about a week now and I think I can see an improvement.

Again thanks for your info

Might be worth having it checked out.  It can go quiet for a while although still be active in your joints - a bit like Osteoporosis, you might not realise you have it?  You may find it moves around from joint to joint too.  It is an extremely painful and debilitating disease so don't let it get a grip!

Keep up with the Pumkin seeds, they can only help.

Take care

Hi alpcon

I think that you may not P at all. i think you would first get psoriasis on your skin  . I would wait for your resaults from the docs once test have been done and make a plan and go from there . Im glad your nails are beter tho from the seeds . I would really wish you good luck at the docs.

Not necessarily, Andrew.  It is possible to have PA without having signs of P and vice versa (all the one disease).  I hope it's not P/PA and Alpcon's Doc gives him an accurate diagnoses.
