but I think the mineral oils (paraffin, vaseline,...) are excellents moisturizers based and remains one of the more effective cosmetic alternative recommended by dermatologists worldwide.
Yes, I know many dermatologists recommend these things.
But that means virtually nothing to me. In years gone by doctors worldwide recommended a certain morning sickness tablet for pregnant women and we all know how that ended up. There was a time when doctors were telling us that smoking cigarettes were good for your health, and that didn’t quite work out so well either. Just because somebody is a medical professional and wears a clinical white coat, doesn’t really mean that much in terms of product safety.
And I know many people achieve excellent results by using things like Vaseline for P. If this is the case, than fantastic and good on them for finding something that works.
Alcohol is a drying and irritating solvent for the skin anyway, it actually strips away natural moisture from your skin, so people with a skin disorder should be especially careful when using products that contain it.
For anyone concerned about their cosmetics, you can check the Skin Deep Cosmetics Data base online, or even better, buy the pocket shopping book companion “The Chemical Maze” by Bill Statham.
Depending on the type and how used: mineral oil scores a moderate hazard risk on the database, alcohol a low to moderate risk and perfume/fragrance a high hazard risk.
I hope I haven’t offended or upset you with my comments, as that was certainly not my intention. But you did ask the question. And whilst I don’t know about the actual product, I do know about the ingredients.
I am not trying to annoy you; I am just giving my feedback on some of the ingredients. This feedback is from my own personal bad experiences with certain cosmetic ingredients both P and non-P related, and from what I learnt in a college course on the subject.
But as I said previously, if the product works for you personally, then congratulations and good luck with it.
Hopefully you will keep posting back, as I look forward to seeing peoples photo updates as their skin clears.
I wish I had kept a photo record of clearance as it was occurring, so I highly recommend that people do this.
