Post viral flare up, but with a possible link for my p
« on: December 29, 2009, 07:33:42 PM »
Hi all,
My family and I have all been ill over christmas >:( with a bad virus according to the doctor. In the worst days of the virus the only things I was eating were satsumas, and mainly drinking lemon and honey. Normally, I avoid citrus and tomatoes as I don't think they agree with me but my body was really craving the citrus stuff and I didn't have the will to argue! Now, the virus has gone but the psoriasis is starting to flare up big, red and UGLY. Now I sometimes do get a bit of a flare after an illness, but not normally this bad and not normally this quickly afterwards, so I'm just wondering if this definitely shows up a link for me between citrus and my psoriasis. I really feel it does but has anyone else had any experience of this? The other really wierd thing is that my lips have gone completely dried out, beyond normal dry lips, and I'm wondering if this is all the acid from the fruit. Does this sound plausible to anyone or am I post-viral raving?
Hope everyone else had a better christmas than mine and doesn't have a big red spotty forehead at the moment either!

It is not 100% conclusive (because of the factor of the virus) but it sounds like it. And if you feel it does, then you are most probably right.

Best to wait until you are totally virus free and test it out by doing a testing / elimination diet for a week.

Funny thing is, eating oranges would sometimes make my P flare – but as long as I remove the fibre and juice them, this appears to be fine for me. After all I had an orange & carrot juice almost every single day for the past 19 months and remained P free.

I can’t comment on your lip problem, but I can highly recommend the following product for terribly dry lips: Badger Lavender & Orange Lip / Body Balm

A few years ago I had terrible dry lips, and those chapstick things made my lips sorer and dryer. I discovered the Badger Balm and my lips pretty much healed and returned to normal (or better than normal) in a matter of 24 hours.

Hi,
thanks for your reply madcat. I've been a few days citrus free now and my lips have returned to normal and my skin is beginnning to calm. Again I can't really rule out the effect of the virus, but I'm going to be carrying on avoiding citrus now as this has proved a point for me in my mind at least!
