Those having success using vit d/ibuprofen
« on: June 12, 2007, 12:19:31 PM »
Hi guys

The vit D/ibuprofen thread is now huge! I thought it would be good to have those who are experiencing good results with it to impart some of their top tips for those interested. I know there is a bit of trial and error with it and everyone is different but I'm guessing there will also be many parallels. I feel this will help us to decide on a sort of do's and don'ts of the treatment.

Thanks

My top tips would be:

1. Before you start, take photographs of your worst areas, try to do this in a place and at an angle where you can repeat each week, then re-photograph those areas each week.. when you are looking at something day to day its hard to see changes but the photo's will show what progress, or lack of it, you are making.  Keep in mind it's hard to see the bumpiness in photo's, so if your first improvement is smoothness this may not be especially obvious in the first few photographs.

2. Write down everything you are taking, whether it's the full formula or part of it. Also write down if you are eating a special diet.  If you skip a day's medication or eat something you shouldn't, record it - then if there is no progress or a set-back you can trace back possible causes.  If you take extra ibuprofen or paracetamol (for a headache or joint pain for example) record this too, also if you take anything else (eg. evening primrose oil, or any other kind of supplement).  This can help you keep track of what is working, what isnt working, what may be helping and what may be impeding progress.

3. Spread the tablets out through the day, if you are taking 2 high strength Vit D pills, take 1 at night and 1 in the evening - I found this really cut down on the itch that some of us have experienced.

4. Don't be disheartened if there are no obvious changes after a few days, it takes a few weeks for it to kick in and the first changes are in smoothness and scaling so the P can look just as widespread but not as angry.  Keep with it!

5. Be consistent, dont take Vit D one day, then skip it for a few days or miss out one of the ingredients occasionaly - decide what you are going to take, then take it every day!  You have to give it time before you can decide it's not working and change what you are taking.

6. Get support from other's on here who are on the same regime.

7. When you clear, post your before and after pics on PHO to show how well it worked :)

From my experience...
My P last December was so bad, the hospital Derm department wanted all three steps at once..steroid creams, NB UVB and ordered bloodwork to start Enbrel.
With no way to pay for all that...I started this formula the third week of Jan 2007, and was 100% clear of plaque by mid-may.

My top tips?

* take the complete formula as shown on page one of the thread.

1000 iu of vitamin D3 (not D2) more in winter less in summer (1000IU= 25mcg)
                   200mcg selenium
                   250 mcgB12
                   400 mcg folic acid
                   2x 1000 flax seed oil
                   2 x 1200 fish oil
400mg calcium if you don't eat a lot of dairy cheese etc...
200 mg ibuprofen in the  evening with water or fluid
(I split the fish and flax oil tablets to one each in the AM and one each in the PM with dinner (easier on my stomach)

* make sensible changes to your diet.
try to limit...sugars (soft drinks), wheat gluten (bread, cakes, white rice, pasta) and beef (burgers, pizza)
try to increase....fish, chicken, fruits, veggies, brown rice

* Try to get some "moderate" sun.  15-20 minutes a day.  Never get burned or pink...frequent short exposures of 15 minutes a day is much more effective than spending an entire day out "sun-bathing".

Hope this helps,
Mark
