SANDALWOOD OIL
« on: August 06, 2007, 03:00:46 PM »
Hi everybody
my niece is currently on a trip from University to Sri Lanka. they raised money to build a school and are now out there teaching the children. Not that that's anything to do with psoriasis!! Anyway, my niece suffers from eczema, and on her travels one day she came across a 'spice garden' and bought some sandalwood oil and it has cleared her eczema. She asked the man selling the oil if it would work for psoriasis, and he said yes. Her friend bought some, who has suffered from psoriasis for 20 years, and nothing has worked before. And as soon as she started using the sandalwood oil, the p cleared up. completely! Just wondered if anyone else had heard of this, or tried it.

Thats brilliant news 8)
I love the smell of sandalwood, it has a woody, lingering perfume - I think it is used in some aftershaves, quite yummy  ;)
On the skin, it helps to relieve itching and inflammation and is also really good for dehydrated, flaky skin & for fighting dry skin conditions such as eczema.
It is quite an expensive oil - you would use it mixed in with a carrier oil (not direct on the skin).
Personally, the only draw back I see about sandalwood is that the oil is made from the inner heartwood of the tree & so the whole tree has to be destroyed to get to it, although there are maybe some companies which will have a more ethical approach to this.
I have used it myself in the past & it is lovely - although I never used it long term as a treatment.
Have you tried it yourself? Good luck if you do  :) x

OK, decision made, I'm gonna go get some. Although I'm not taking an axe with me, I think i'll leave that bit to the manufacturer!
it's for my daughter, not me. her skin is looking really good at the moment, but there's one little stubborn patch on her side that never really goes completely, i'm going to try it there and see what happens.
it's hard finding stuff i dare use on her, she's only 16 months old, so as this is all natural i'm going to give it a go!

Hi Emma Louise

That's brilliant for your niece and friend, how are they using the sandalwood oil - is it neat or few drops in base cream???  One of my friends has terrible eczema just now and my P can always use a bit of extra help.  All advice welcome  :)

Hi Veronique
because she's still travelling she's not easy to contact at the mo, and she didn't specify when she emailed me about it. but i've looked at sandalwood oil on a website, and because it's an oil, like in aromatherapy, it says it should be mixed with a carrier oil.
the people in the health shop where you buy it should be able to advise, i'm sure.
if i get chance this weekend i'm going to get some for Annabel. her skin was looking quite patchy last night, so hopefully this will help.
isn't it weird, this p? i check her over one day, her skin is almost completely perfect. the next day, there are patches everywhere.
