Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and Dead Sea Salts
« on: June 30, 2010, 11:46:48 PM »
After reading posts on here and other skin condition related websites, I have gone and ordered some Unrefined (Raw) Shea Butter, Cold Pressed 100% Jojoba Oil and some Dead Sea Salts.

I have started off today by applying the Shea Butter and tomorrow I might have a bath in Dead Sea Salts followed by moisturising with Jojoba Oil.

I will keep you lot updated on my progress and lets hope it helps with the psoriasis :)

Great combo there hshah, bet it helps.  Jojoba oil is fantastic as a hair /scalp conditioner, I've just started using it.  Also find essential oil products such as Clarins or Elemis Exotic Frangipani monoi fantastic and others have recommended rosemary oil which I'm hoping to include in my nightly beauty routine.  I've recently tried Aalgo (seaweed product) to scalp but found if anything it worsened my P.  I'm all for alternative treatments, I believe they have their place in managing P and so I'm determined to find something that works which doesn't cause unpleasant side effects.  The oils are fantastic, I feel soo good with them; dead sea products I've used from pharmacy and health store are quite useless, perhaps its as they are not entirely pure or that it is used in combination with light /sun treatment at the Dead Sea.

Looking forward to your updates and wishing you every success,

Hugs
BB

Cheers babyblue :)

I have my last UVB session today and it did not fully clear up this time (this is my 3rd course of UVB since 2005), which is why I am really looking into alternative treatments.  All the above solutions have cost me £50, and there is enough there to last nearly 1 month.  If it doesn't work I have only wasted £50 which isn't much, and if it does help then YAY :)

I bought mine Calm N Soothe, as it was recommended by others on this forum.  When you say a while, how long did it take?  What moisturiser are you using?  Did it just help with the flakes or did it actually clear it up?

Oh well, if not, at least you will have wrinkle-free, soft, smooth skin. ;)

Personally I don’t hold out too much hope for the Dead Sea Salts – I really think you actually need to be at the Dead Sea for this to work well.

Shea butter is a pain to use if you buy it in blocks, as it is hard to melt. But somebody just told me that they melt their blocks like chocolate (in a basin over a saucepan of hot water) and then they mix it with coconut oil and use it as a body moisturiser after a warm bath and just before bed. So I am going to try this too.

I accidently discovered the benefits of jojoba oil quite a few years ago. I had P patches appear on my face (forehead, eyebrows, bridge of nose etc...) and had to give up using my normal cleanse, toner and moisturising routine because the products were too harsh on my P delicate skin.

I started to cleanse with jojoba oil, tone with lukewarm water and then moisturise with calendula cream from the Jurlique range.

This worked absolutely brilliantly. Not only was I able to continue with my daily facial cleanse, toner and moisturising routine, but the oil and the cream helped my P patches to settle down and eventually clear up.

However, the Jurlique range is very expensive and I had just lost my job, so I could not continue to buy it. Instead I replaced the calendula cream with jojoba oil as the moisturiser and have never looked back.

For the past few years I have been daily cleansing, toning and moisturising my face with only jojoba oil, lukewarm water and again jojoba oil. And in the past few weeks I have started using rosehip oil as the moisturiser instead.

This simple routine using natural products and the on-going high alkaline diet and daily juicing has been very beneficial to me in more ways than one. Maybe too good! I have been thinking about trying to throw a sickie from work but can’t........as everyone keeps telling me how well I look. :D

Hi BB

Yes, I agree that Jojoba oil is fantastic as a hair /scalp conditioner......as well as many other things.

But I have just recently discovered that Rosehip oil is fantastic too.

I stopped washing my hair about two years ago now - well I should say, in the past two years I have only used commercial shampoo & conditioner on my hair about four times – which I suppose is pretty much the same as saying I have stopped.

Last week I rubbed Rosehip oil all through my hair and left it on for 24 hours (at the weekend at home) and then rinsed it out with warm water. It has made my hair look and feel really good.

I have also read that Rosehip oil is really good for P.

I brought two brands to try:

* Kosmea Organic Rose Hip Oil @ $29.95 for 15mls

* Springfields Organic Rose Hip Oil @ $19.95 for 30mls

Pretty much the same (i.e.) excellent

Although I actually slightly prefer the Kosmea, the Springfields is more economical.

I think I will use Springfields everyday and save the Kosmea for weekly treatments.

Either way, I only use 2 – 4 drops on my face, so it lasts a while.

Cleansing with jojoba oil and moisturising with the rosehip oil, has been a great way to protect myself from the coldest winter I have experienced in twenty odd years.

I am all for alternative treatments. I have seen great results from people changing their lifestyle just a fraction. It is almost free and you need is the will power, belief system and the right technique to apply.

I am buying some more Jojoba oil as well as some Grapeseed oil.  I can find two main sources, but I am curious about their varying prices:

On Chemist Direct the Jojoba costs more, and on Akoma Skin Care, the Grapeseed costs more.

Is one far better quality than the other?  Which one would be better for me?

(before someone tries to point out that they are different sizes, I am aware of that and I have worked out the prices per 100ml) :p

Don't know which one will be better for you.....experiment and see which one you like best.

I tried Grapeseed oil but did not like it very much - but that is just me. Whereas I love the Jojoba oil.

But remember: to get a good quality brand you may need to pay extra.

Cheap is cheap for a reason  ;D

For the very best and most concentrated potent oil (therefore the most healing) – only buy certified organic Jojoba oil in a dark bottle and with the Latin name – as this reflects purity.
