Sugar free diet anyone?
« on: July 05, 2004, 03:17:54 PM »
As above really, just wondered if anyone had done a sugar free or as close as possible to free diet?

I guess it would be very difficult to do so as sugar is in virtually everything.
If anyone has done this what results if any did you get?
Thanks in advance.
Dan

the effects of a sugar free diet will depends on two things
1) if you have an allergy to sugar (some do)
2) if you have a fungal infection in your stomach

Right ok.
Also read that refined sugar also has a bad effect on your immune system.
Don't know if that's true or not.
Just wondered.

I tried cutting out refined sugars but gave up after about 4 weeks because it was so bloody hard - i was starving constantly.  In the end i had to compromise and try to stick to things like wholemeal bread, pasta and rice and try not to eat cakes that sort of thing.  Can see a huge  improvement - but have also been drinking more water, using dead sea products, moisturising a lot more than i used to do, getting the sun etc etc.  think its a combination of the lot,

it felt like 4 years.  What made me crack was going to the bakers in town and buying the kids sausage rolls and then having to stroll round to the health food shop for a wholemeal vegetarian (?) sausage roll which tasted like cack.  Thought it just wasn't worth it!

I've eaten almost no sugar for over a year now - has made no difference to the p, the inexorable march of the scabs continues...

But losing sugar has made me feel better in many other ways - I have more energy and believe that I'm generally happier. Sugar causes massive fluxes in blood sugar. It floods your system, you secret loads of insulin to mop it up, and then your blood sugar crashes - end result, you end up tired and hungry for no real reason.

Sugar is in many things, but most of those things are basically c**p. By cutting sugar you also cut out most processed food which can only be good.

A matter of personal choice - like most things

Hey guys

still quite new to this board (only my second post!). Don't know if i could cut out sugar, you're very brave!!!

I have cut down mightily on dairy produce and now only have a cup of tea (also cut down on the caffeine) with skimmed milk in the morning. I have noticed that my skin is not so red on the elbows and on my knuckles (looked like i was constantly in a fight!) as it was. May be give this one a try- i certainly haven't had any more cropping up and a lot of the p is looking less angry.

Also , hate to say this but cutting down on the alcohol certainly keeps it from flaring so much.

has the cutting down on dairy helped anyone else?

Hi,

I took my 10yr old daughter along for food tollarence test in desperation to try to calm her p down. Im a true believer in the saying "you are what you eat".  Anyway sugar came out as a baddie.

Even though she wasn't a huge sugar eater we cut out all sugars for 4 weeks. Was so proud of her and it tugged at the heart strings when her friends were having sweets, biscuits etc, her worst nightmare no tomato ketchup.  We allowed her diabetic choc occasionally, but you have to be careful as the sugar substitutes can be just as bad. I made home made cakes for her, sugar free jam, school dinners were off the menu, it was back to basics meat and veg. No processed food. Hard work, me and my husband would only eat what she could (until her back was turned). She also drank lots of water.

The result was very good. Did not clear p completely but very good results. We did reintroduce the sugar gradually after the 4 weeks basically because it was a nightmare especially for a child but she found she didnt want as much sugar anymore so we have stuck to sugar free baked beans, jelly, instant whip etc., tomato ketchup was the first food reintroduced though.

One word of warning some of the sugar substitutes in large amounts can cause a laxative effect, we was informed about this after it was too late.
