Turmeric

A friend of mine has been researching the use of Turmeric for IBS on the net lately and came across this:

(go right to the bottom of the thread).

Interestingly, it is quite an old thread and initially about IBS. Some medical research has been carried out since it was created that shows it is very beneficial to IBS symptoms - so these people knew about it long before the medical establishment gave their blessings to its use alongside traditional remedies.

However, I thought it might be worth discussing/looking into for P after reading this post.

Anyone?

I wonder if she had cancer before she started the tumeric?  Any way, looking up tumeric as an essential oil - ok here it is..

tumeric is moderatley toxic and irritant in high doses.  Possible sensitization problems.
Good for use with the following conditions:
arthritis, muscular aches and pains, rheumatism
Anorexia, sluggish digestion, liver congestion.

In chinese herbalism it is used for bruises and sores, ringworm, toothache and chest pain.  Also a cure for jaundice.

The actions of the essential oil are: anti inflammatory; anti-oxidant; bactericidal and laxative - amoungst others

Hmmm......  skin connection could be the anti inflammatory and the digestion connection?

Oh yes, it's high in vitamins, especially vitamin C and minerals

sometimes, something just works..................

Well now I can see why it works for IBS! Thanks Su!

It actually has been medically proven, through tests, to ease IBS. Only a matter of time before capsules are made by Holland and Barratt and suchlike...

Me too. My friend suffers from IBS and there is so little help given by the docs for this. Just like alternative treatments for P, he has to figure it out and give stuff a go...just like people here.

He says I should give it a go and what do I have to lose?

I have also heard that Tumeric in its powder form is used by Asians especially in India by women to rub into skin. Well the Tumeric Extract I am using or Curcumin is in capsuls and it seems to help with the itching, I got an 180 capsul bottle so when I am finished will update on outcome.
I am also using a spray called skin cure which really helps with the itching, it is a mexican pepper spray which contains pyrithione or something like that. I have an extra spray if anyone ones to try as well?  It is always different for each person. THe spray is great when severe itching as it stops it right away most of the time.Although it comes in a little bottle.
