Udo'S Oil
« on: October 14, 2011, 06:23:28 PM »
HI, I've just started taking Udo's oil Omega 3, 6 & 9 blend capsules (2 a day). Has anyone else tried these and if so how did you get on in general? I've heard some good things about them!

My skins getting really bad again, so like with the clay baths, Im throwing myself into some more alternative treatments in the hope something may help out rather than me having to head to the derm.

What's your diet like?  Do you happen to have any sort of digestion issues?

Sorry, I have no experience with Udo's Oil but like you I have seen good reviews.

Hiya Lazza,

Diet is mainly ok. Cerial and smoothie in the morning, a couple of salad and meat sarnies at work and then meat and veg for dinner and try not to eat puddings.

Digestion seems to be fine, mainly. Was having problems with some food getting stuck in my throat in the mornings, and some passing of blood in the mornings, but that seems to have improved.

Just thought Id give these a go for a few months and see if I noticed anything improve, hopefully in skin and well being!

Have you tried going gluten free and/or dairy free?  Eating healthily, while of course good for you, will not improve your skin if you continue to consume foods that trigger your psoriasis.  This can mean that eating a small amount of these foods will prevent your psoriasis from calming down.

In addition, blood in your stool should raise alarm bells.  It might be harmless (eg, hemorrhoids) or it might be something serious.  Since many on this forum believe in a tight association between colon health and psoriasis it is certainly worthwhile to make sure nothing sinister is going on down there.  No need to PANIC, just get it checked out.

Lastly, take potent probiotics.  Or better still make your own sauerkraut or yogurt.  I've personally found sauerkraut to be a helpful final step after cleaning up my diet (eliminating dairy and gluten); my psoriasis has improved just a bit more.

Thanks Lazza,

I was on a strict gluten and dairy free diet when I was a teenager for months and it didnt have an effect on my skin. The blood is mainly from my throat when I wake up and it feels like I have dry blood clogged up in my throat which becomes fresh when i grem up the other stuff and have a sour taste in my mouth. (sorry for the description)
I have a rash of Psoriasis on my throat which has only appeared recently and the whole area of skin goes very red if I touch it (not sore).

The blood thing has happened for quite a few years now and had an endoscope up my nose and down my throat and that didnt find anything, so its all a bit weird to be honest.

I do eat yogurt each day, and the other note is I was born with only one kidney, its an enlarged one on the left hand side, and have a bladder pipe that wouldnt be out of place as a water slide at Alton Towers apparently!!

I have never taken the capsules - I did not even know you could get it in capsule form.

But I use to take the oil - a tablespoon every morning. I use to also take flaxseed oil like this too for P. It did not help.

However, at that stage my diet was pretty poor, so lack of results was hardly surprising.

I think if you took the oil and followed a good diet, you may see results.

Have you read "Eat to Live" by Dr Joel Fuhrman?

If you have a look on his blog, you will see a lady who healed from her P and PA from following his eating plan.

The blog is: diseaseproof.com

It is pretty much what I did to clear P (ie.) removed toxins from my diet and started to eat nutrient-rich foods instead.

I don't suffer from insanity....I enjoy every minute of it!

All the things that flare up my P:   cereal, bread, meat and too much cooked foods.

I'm quite happy with my diet to be honest and dont think its that bad, I have tried cutting out wheat/ Dairy/ Gluten/ Starch years ago on the advice of an Alergist, and it didnt help and i did stick with it very strictly for months. The only thing I want to do is eat abit more veg and fruit.

Im more interested in the different oils/ creams..etc.

On the diet issue though, I have one, probably daft question.. Do you think it is the cutting out certain foods that may help improve some peoples Psoriasis, or eating foods you didnt eat before?

Not a daft question at all, and I believe the answer is both.  Cutting out certain foods is vital for some people, including myself.  Eating these foods is akin to jabbing your immune system with a hot poker.  On the other hand eating healthy, wholesome foods after years of eating rubbish will gradually help your body flush out toxins, restore your colon health, and improve all sorts of biological functions.  It's impact, I believe, will be felt in waves over time ... including, important for psoriasis sufferers, reducing inflammation.

But as for your real question, I cannot help you really.  I do a bit of glycerine twice daily but its impact on psoriasis is fairly light (definitely helpful but zero WOW! factor).  As you can tell from my posts I am a true believer in healing psoriasis from the inside since this reflects my personal experience.

Thanks Lazza

I try to eat organic as much as possible, and eat wholemeal bread with fresh meat filling. Im trying to wean myself of buying frozen meat products for night meals, like southern fried chicken, and buy organic chicken and make my own coverings and like I said before, try to eat more veg. I wouldnt cut out meat as its an important part of my diet.

I think there are many different factors involved with Psoriasis and each person is unique with their condition and what treatments can be effective for them, and the most common thing I've read over the years is what works for someone, may not work for another, and that includes external treatments, internal treatments, physchological treatments...etc. Ive tried Vit D3, UV, PUVA, gluten free diets and I've not found any joy yet, and I spent a good time and effort on each. I was trying Glycerin on my legs for quite a few months and didnt get any joy with that either.

I do keep my eye out if I dont think a particuar food, or drink agrees with my skin and if I find something I will try to avoid it, or certainly cut it down. So far spicy food and wine are ones, and I cant have brandy as im badly allergic to it!!

I do hold faith that I will swallow a capsule one day, or bath in something, or apply some natural cream and it will stop my skin from reproducing so darn fast!!!

Fingers crossed for us all and fair play to anyone that has found something that helps!!
