« on: June 21, 2009, 04:33:53 PM »
hi , i've been using vit d3 for just over a year now , 5000iu aday , recently dropping off to every other day and i have to say with positive results ( assuming its the vit d3 to thank ) just wondered if any one else is using it and with what results ?  I have the guttate type which usually flares after major colds or sore throats . Well i've had a couple in the last year and no major outbreak has happened . i still have the very odd spot ( 3 or 4 ) and a touch on my knees and elbows , but basically i'm as clear as i could wish for.  :) ady

Hi Ady, a lot of people on here use D3 and have found success with it.   I would think most people use it in combination with Barney's formula as Mel mentioned which is a combination of other vitamins too.   If you want more info on Barney's then there are lots of threads on it, just do a search.   Barney has provided loads of brilliant info on the effects of vit d3.

Personally I only use vit D3 & calcium I've been using 4,000iu per day plus 2000mg.   Plus also eating raw veg.

Hi Ady, and congratulations on your success with the D3 therapy!

Ive been using the full Barneys formula for roughly three months with good results. Although my situation might be a little different than usual. Prior to starting Barneys I was an Enbrel user for almost three years. What happened was my dermatologist that I had been going to since I was 7 years old(now 32) retired and moved out of state. Then my prescription for the Enbrel expired.

So I decided to try an experiment. At that point I was pretty much in remission, just a slight dot or two on the knees & elbows. I wanted to see what would happen if I went off the prescription meds. So I discovered BF on the US site, and started almost immediately.

So here I am three months since my last enbrel injection and im still in pretty good shape except for a little scalp flare.
Its also summe time too though, and ive been making an effort to get as much sun as possible, which is probably helping quite a bit.

Early studies on vitamin D showed promise that various forms of the "vitamin" may be protective against chronic disease, yet systematic reviews and longer-term studies have failed to confirm these findings. A number of studies have suggested that patients with autoimmune diagnoses are deficient in 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-D) and that consuming greater quantities of vitamin D, which further elevates 25 D levels, alleviates autoimmune disease symptoms. Some years ago, molecular biology identified 25 D as a secosteroid. Secosteroids would typically be expected to depress inflammation, which is in line with the reports of symptomatic improvement. The simplistic first-order mass-action model used to guide the early vitamin studies is now giving way to a more complex description of action. When active, the Vitamin D nuclear receptor (VDR) affects transcription of at least 913 genes and impacts processes ranging from calcium metabolism to expression of key antimicrobial peptides. Additionally, recent research on the Human Microbiome shows that bacteria are far more pervasive than previously thought, increasing the possibility that autoimmune disease is bacterial in origin. Emerging molecular evidence suggests that symptomatic improvements among those administered vitamin D is the result of 25-D's ability to temper bacterial-induced inflammation by slowing VDR activity. While this results in short-term palliation, persistent pathogens that may influence disease progression, proliferate over the long-term.

hi JJ...aha!!!...trevor  marshalls more mystical L bacteria!!!!!!!!

bad science....the trevor marshall foundation...over the last few years i did a little research about 'em...do i hear a duck somewhere????

his foundation in california consisted of...at least a few years ago when i last checked.....him, his wife, a home health care nurse in wisconsin and a woman from texas with a BS degree...

In 2008, Marshall published a paper exploring how, in his words, "lifelong supplementation of the food chain with vitamin D might well be contributing to the current epidemics of obesity and chronic disease." This was only an explanatory paper; no proper clinical studies of the Marshall Protocol have been carried out as of June 2009.

he has long promoted this hair brained belief that cell wall less bacteria...L bacteria (which may exist) or some mysterious agent is aggravated by Vitamin D .. contrary to all recent research and that low vitamin D levels result in increased disease ...he believes that a low vitamin D level is desired and much chronic disease is due to vitamin D added to food.

....unfortunately, he has sarcoidosis..where excess D is a concern...the problem is, he now believes that all have a similar response...his credentials are suspect, his research is scant to none and while he has many detractors, he does have a few persistent  misinformed followers suggesting just about anyone can get anything published and some take it for gospel....at the bottom of this discussion link it addresses  Marshalls opinions You are not allowed to view links.  Our results demonstrate that the combination of vitamin D(3) and DHA= (dehydroascorbic acid) treatment prevent free radical production and dietary supplementation of vitamin D(3) and DHA which may be useful in the ischemic cerebral vascular diseases
