Hmm... so because of the yoghurt I am technically not giving up dairy... I wonder how that will pan out  :-\

Nah,probably all got central heating now 8)

Well I presume having yog means you haven't given up dairy. Unless there is something not in yog that is the reason why some people need to give up dairy? Sorry bj - don't want to go off on too much of a tangent on the thread...this thread of course isn't about giving up certain food groups.
Might be worth giving yourself a month without dairy  and then intro yoghurt?

I try and take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

BJ, I know your bad microbe theory is a hypothesis and may not work for everyone, but that's not my question.

My question is...regardless of whether taking yogurt works for me or not, does using the EasiYo (from what you can read about) still make yogurt with a trillion microbes?

In other words, if I make yogurt using EasiYo, will that yogurt be "inferior" in terms of trying to replicate the potent trillion microbe yogurt that you make using the crockpot?

i thought i answered that on the previous page for the reasons i mentioned..

#4490  quote "so no, i don't think that will work...it appears you have to buy their powdered milk "sachet"..which will cost....also the hot water will only keep it cooking so long..readding hot water might bring the temp above 130 which will destroy the microbes...

Now if you use milk as ellie suggests..it probably has to be UHT milk..which we  in the states may have a hard time getting. This milk has been heated to a high temp for a short duration..and has a long shelf non refridgerated shelf life..but in heating its protein bonds were probably broken..which is necessary to produce a smooth yogurt..if you use normal milk..i would guess as its unheated to break those protein bonds  it might result in a stringy mess...but i do not know as my experience on the subject is limited  ..and one has to experiment to know for certain... i further went on that if in doubt, just buy commercial yogurt ..eat 2-3 cups a day and look for any change..it might be enough to convince you that this has merit..

i use a simple 2 qt pan and then in a picnic cooler with hot water to maintain an adequate temp...i might try a heating pad..

..on Dairy....The idea is by a 24 hour incubation time..we eliminate all lactose..as the microbes convert it all to lactic acid...hence for those lactose intolerant it then may be ok..conversely a commercial brand incubates for 4-6 hours and may contain some lactose...

So where are we at... ;)

1000-2000iu of vitamin D, with a meal
a small multivitamin  (to fill any gaps)
200-500mcg of b12 if over 50-55
400mcg folic acid if in the sun or uvb/uva/nbuvb light

one 200mg ibuprofen in the evening, two 200mg  for shorter duration if there is flairing  Remember not for those trying to get pregnant, pregnant or people with asthma especially children

some sun, light, uvb/uva , tanning  or narrowband can really help to jump start things

1-2 cups/day of homemade yogurt, perhaps more if its commercial yogurt

and/or.....50-200mg enteric coated peppermint oil 2-3 times a day and/or peppermint altoids randomly..about 15/day

optional ..fish or flax oil and selenium

a moderate diet...go lighter on gluten, bread, tomatoes, legumes, beans peanuts until the yogurt appears to help.....one week to a month...

(i must have missed that when i was going through the previous pages) as it mentions kefir in there so i will carry on with it and post an update when I've been doing everything for a few weeks.

i question re the ibuprofen - do you continually take this or just until P is under control.

Was really itching in bed last night so got up at 1.am and took a 2nd ibu and it definitely eased it and I got to sleep. Really itching round the ankles today and after 7 weeks on humira (and 1 week on formula) my skin is still slowly getting worse. Don't know if this is a good sign or.. it's just getting worse, lol, sigh.
Anyway, I know it is very early days with the forumla and just neeed to keep going for the next 4 months regardless.

Got my EasiYo and just put in a batch :D

What temperature do the bacteria die at?  I was thinking that if I wanted to put more water in, I would make sure it is below a certain temperature.  Ideally I want to leave it in for around 24 hours to make sure all the lactose is broken down.

hi H...they die at around 130F or 54C  and grow optimally at about 100-110 or 43C..but they grow at reduced temp also..

good luck

Hi phish....are you also on the humira?...your doc should know...

the itching is not uncommon with the formula...lasted about a week for me...intense and i did just as you did..took two ibu for about a week. I have no idea how the formula and humira changes things.. i certainly hope it helps..

Interesting... the guide for EasiYo says to put in boiling water at the start. Surely that would kill everything that's there initially?
