ways of handling stress
« on: March 11, 2004, 01:06:25 AM »
Since stress/work pressures/constant worrying trigger p, I am interested if anyone has tried stress-relieving activities such as yoga, spa, massage, etc. and if it helped.

Thanks.

Hi Len

stress affects people in different ways.  As a complementary therapist I could tell you of many ways to complete the cycle of stress.  Some folks would do well with vigorous exercise, others with massage, some with a laugh and joke with their mates down the pub, whereas some people just need to lie in the bath with candles, a few essential oils and some soft music.

try a few of the cheaper remedies first and see if any work for you - have to say massage and reflexology are good, you're getting some quality time to yourself and the undivided attention of your therapist

thanks su.  i was trying to get an appointment for a massage but when i told them i had p, they said they don't recommend the  massage for people with p.  something about the oil irritating the p or making it more itchy.

i will try and look for another massage clinic.  it sounds wonderful to have a massage.  :)

Crikey Len - that's rubbish!!  I treat people with p using massage all the time.  You might want to try the ITEC website and search for a therapist in your area - that way you know they are qualified to diploma level, registered and insured.

I would suggest you ask for a massage using 2 drops bergamot, 2 drops lavender and 2 drops roman chamomile in a grapessed oil base.  I've never had anyone have a bad reaction to this formula in the 4 years I've been qualified.

let me know how you get on

Su

Ooh yes! I save up my glass and have a "smashing" time at the bottle bank!

Failing that yoga and pilates type classes are good!

thanks su!  unfortunately i am not UK.  sorry for the ignorance, but what therapist should i be looking for?  i only went to a spa/massage clinic.  also am not sure where to buy the oils you mentioned.

there's another place i called today, the receptionist said i should call in on a wednesday because that's the only day their dermatologist is in the clinic.  they also do not want to give me a massage treatment until the derm sees my p.

i usually have weekends free so i just want to forget work and do something that will help me do that.  i'm a hopeless worrier.  my head can be busy worrying even when i'm not at work anymore.  i hate it, but i can't help it.
