Went seing derm on Friday..Interesting reaction??
« on: June 05, 2005, 08:59:08 PM »
 ;D
Hey there folks!

As some of you who read my thread on my 'self-help campaign' will know i spoke to my derm on the phone about 6 weeks ago now about using regular UVA tanning shop beds, and how caucious almost dismissive she was, in the end she agreed as long as i didnt burn, and was sensible a few sessions would do no harm.

I went back to see her on Friday and explained/showed her that  my P, which was pretty bad to say the least had responded very well to the tanning shop beds. I expected her to be dismissive, so I practiced my 'lines' that i had been very careful,  i felt the need to try and help myself etc and I was more than suprised with her response.

She said even tho she didnt condone the use of UVA beds due to the risks involved that maybe i was along the right track(although by no means a long term solution - but what is where Pis concerned?) Can you believe it? I found this soooo strange.

She then started pointing out all the danger that dovonex/dovobate etc can lead to with liver function etc, (i have been using Dovonex for years and dovobet for about 12months).

My skin is 100% ok now, i am P free, and cant quite believe that my derm is on my side, for what feels like the 1st time in over 10 years!

I am still using the local tanning shop bed twice a week for 6 or 9 minutes along with dead sea salt scrubs, oat baths and loads of baby oil gel. The only downside is my fella moans cause i am always in the bathroom using all the hot water lol

I feel that confident that i am actually going on holiday abroad on Thursday for the 1st time in ages, i cant wait!

Just thought i would share my experience/outcome with you all, i know what works for me wont always work for you, and i expect your derm would groan a little too!

Oh, BTW those oat baths rock! They leave your skin so smooth and any stubborn patches have all but gone, just a few darker patches that the derm said was due to dovonex/dovobate.

Hey Angela

Really pleased your P has gone.  I do the dead sea salt baths/coconut oil routine already, but would love any information on the oat baths.  Do you just buy normal oats, or can you bulk buy from specialist suppliers?

Huge thanks

Oat baths are simply rolled porridge oats put a couple of handfuls in a leg of a tight leg or pop sock and tie a knot in it, leave it in the bath whilst it runs and soak for around 20 mins use it as a sponge, its so softening to the skin its untrue!
I have had about 15 sessions, derm says anything mor ethan that in a year is pushing it - i started to see an imrovement after around 4 goes. The first few times my P actuallt looked a little worse - but after about 3 times i saw a difference

Well done you kiddo,

i hope you have a lovely holiday, at least you are going with a positive 'mindset' as it were.

I tried the two 'D's' years ago, and just could NOT tolerate them. i have dark patches which are the residue of old P after UVB/UVA so they may be nothing to do with the 'd's'.

going to have a bath in oats tonight. thanx.

I will survive.

Hi there -
I do not see it as a long term solution, but when you consider i have had p for 14 years and never been fully clear i am more than willing to take the risks. I know taht UVA beds aren't the safest option in the world, but from my pov when my derm told me i was in danger of liver damage due to dovobate/dovonex useage i thought i had no other option but to experiment with alternatives.

My derm said that no more than 12-15 9 minute sessions a year are recommended. I am confident that i can stick to these limits and still be clear - only time will tell i suppose?
