How many people here take co codamol and how often??

I've just received a lecture in the chemist , I bought some over the counter and she said, 'you must not take these for more  than 3 days '  i laughed and said 'yeh right' sacastically, she went mental  :o I expalined why I took them but she still ranted.
Should have kept quiet  :-X

Seeing rhuemy tomorrow so will add that to my list of questions

I get my co-codamol on prescription from my GP - which is infinitely cheaper ie no cost at all!

Rather ignorant pharmacist methinks! No doubt your doctor will clarify

Been taking it for three years! Never had any issues.

I take the 30/500s and take upto 8 a day - like kate mine are on repeat perscription. I have a prepayment card cos its infinately cheaper as i get at least 8 different items a month!

I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night 15/500mg I get them on perscription cant take 30/500 makes me pass out

i cant take that as it has paracetomol in it which makes me sick so i just take codiene on its own, the reason the pharmacist will be funny is because it contains codiene which can be highly addictive also taking anything like this long term daily you should take something to protect the stomach aswell to prevent stomach ulcers and other problems

I think Eve is right, codeine addiction is a big issue and pharmacists have been asked to prompt people about it. I still take them like sweeties though - probably am addicted :o

Rheumy told me today I needed to go on Pregabalin to get me off the co codamol so I stand corrected  :-[

It is because of the risk of addiction but there is little evidence to show that codiene is very addictive. In normal circumstances you should limit it to a few days but in chronic conditions there is nothing wrong with using them longer.

although I have been taking them for just over three years I can and have stopped taking them without issues - In theory any analgesic drug can be addictive.

The thing is if our still in pain what is the benefit of taking you of them? What are you being given instead?
