Just been told today that I will start on MTX in a couple of weeks and the rheumy has said I can have a couple of units per week but to try and stay within that!  How will I cope? :-[
For a year I was on 6 units a week, but since then rheumy has allowed me to go up to 8 every now and then :)
HertsRob in the forums, Rob66 in the chat room. Confuses me too!

best advice I can give you, dont drink mtx night or the night after. Apart from that as long as you are sensible then you should be fine. I never count my units, but am sensible and dont over indulge (well not often anyway lol) and my liver function tests are the same as there were before I started mtx (16 months ago)

HELP...........................

My derm says stay within women's guidelines of units per week and not to drink mtx night. Double-checked with my rheumy today to see what she thinks, and she said 'oh yes it's fine. That no-alcohol instruction is outdated'. So I'm happy with that. Still just going to have one glass every now and again though, just to be on the safe side  ;) She also said avoid mtx day and day after

After suffering 26 years with this condition ... Was put on mtx 2 years ago still on 17.5 mg aweek and never dropped under 12.5mg aweek ..on 17.5 mg  at this moment in time can I just say I've never drank alcohol for over ten years. Over the last month or so the toxins in my liver have come back in blood results the same as alcoholics would be and for being a 40 year old male who never touch's a drop you people really need to make a choise cos mtx is a huge double edged sword ... Now I've been told I must have a scan ASAP on my liver for phybrosis and cirrosis of the liver off the treatment off mtx.... So please please heed this warning they tell u not to drink not to be party poopers....this sh*t can be fatal
Shame there's not a market for new skin because I would.be a multi millionaire ... DNA everywhere

Ive just been prescribed Methotrexate and have been advised that i can have 14 units per week. To take the Methotrexate on a Friday and the folic acid three days later.

If i had chosen sulfasalazine i was allowed 21 units per week but it would only help the joints and not the psoriasis.

Cheers
