Cracking elbow
« on: February 05, 2010, 03:13:46 PM »
Hey everyone,
Just wondered if anyone can give me any clues....My right elbow has started to crack quite loudly (& painfully!) on a regular basis & am worried it maybe a sign of joint/fluid erosion or something horrible like that....All in all I am experiencing good range of movement at present but my elbow is making getting out of bed, getting dressed, lifting small children etc etc etc etc...more of a pain than usual..the worst part is the inevitability of it all as I know its coming but have to do it anyway!!!! oooH ya b****** that hurt! Any tips, ideas, well worn remedies?

thanks

Hi there,  what about asking your GP for a steroid injection in the elbow?   I had this years ago, long before I was diagnosed with PA, so I was probably suffering with it earlier than I thought.  I had a steroid injection and it stopped the pain for about 3 months.  When it came back I had another injection and it went away completely.

Hi Sue,
Not sure if a needle in the elbow sounds like fun!! I feel a bit  like a pin cushion already what with regular bloods etc & I really dont like needles one little bit & dont think I'll ever get used to them, have had steriod shots before & havent really worked for me.........might have to relent soon if no other options & give it a go..............thanks

Hi Scozzy,

My knees make a right racket and occasionally one locks in position as well.  I've been diagnosed with osteoarthritis but really feel I have PA.  However, the creeking is associated with osteoarthritis. Found this on this website :  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Signs and symptoms of arthritis can be different in various forms of arthritis. They can help in diagnosis and identifying the type of arthritis. Patient with osteoarthritis may experience pain, discomfort, swelling and stiffness in the joints especially early in the morning. Usually, the joints of knees, hips, feet, hands, fingers and elbows are involved. Grinding or creaking noise within the joint is the significant symptom of osteoarthritis

I take glusocamine daily and Calcium + Vitamin D3 pills (the latter were prescribed by my Consultant).  Also get a cosy cushion that you can use as a heat pack on the affected area and don't continue to use your arm when the elbow is painful as you may be doing more damage .. and finally, get to see a Consultant - mention to your doctor to get an appropriate referral.

Hope you get some relief soon
