Quite a few newcomers so I thought it might be worthwhile putting down our favourite sites for explaining lab tests

Nice one!

Is there any chance of having this stickied in Lab room as well as not everyone visits the PA board and it would be helpful there as well.

I hope extra suggestions are allowed in this sticky.

Many of us are monitored regularly for liver function. Most sites tell what you the tests are for, but not what they measure, and why. I found the following sites very useful, for myself and for relatives, because they give the 'normal' ranges for each test.

...which looks a good source for almost all health issues.

Much care is necessary in interpreting LFT results, because...
(a) different labs may use different methods;
(b) many healthy people have some abnormal LFT results
(c) very sick people may have normal results;
(d) you may worry too much.

Interpretation of LFTs is discussed in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login .

There was an excellent and public NHS source with good, detailed information on, but it's been reorganised out of existence, as far as I can see.

Also the more general article....

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login describes many of the other common blood tests, complete with 'normal' ranges.

In our 'The Laboratory' board, SJ has recently mentioned the PIIINP liver enzyme assay blood test, of which I hadn't heard, and described it in her MTX info page right here...

I see this sticky thread with the list of blood test web sites has disappeared from the top of 'The Laboratory', where it was potentially useful. Or is the list to be found elsewhere round here, please?

I also see the removal of the need for PIIINP tests when taken off MTX (c.£60.patient) is discussed in the NICE report on Enbrel (tens of £1000s) You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login . That report has a useful glossary including a summary on PIIINP.
