Who thinks there will be a cure?
« on: January 30, 2012, 06:46:31 AM »
Hey All,

I'm sure I am so bloody annoyed at having PA as the rest of you.

Who thinks they will find a cure in the next 10 years or so?

I am not sure, but with all the research they are doing into RA, cancer and P there is some chance. After four years it can't come soon enough.

Maybe, we have to hope that they will :)

The cynic in me though, thinks it suits the drug companies to develop drugs that help but dont cure.....

Hi ripperh.
After 6 months it can't come soon enough!

I see where you're coming from ChrisL, but I think they know as well as anyone else, if they cure everything, nature will just come up with more things for them to work on.

More importantly, if they did come up with a cure, I'm sure the NHS would say that it's too expensive anyway!

Think I'm with Frost on this one - can't really see how you could "cure" it once you have it and think it will be more a case of getting in early with good drugs like the anti tnfs to send it into remission.

And maybe screening or vacinations to stop people getting it - the only problem with a lot of this sort of "cure" is its about genetics and I ain't keen on the idea of genetic manipulation. For all I hate having PA its part of ME and to some degree the has helped me see things differently and given me new oppertunities that I wouldn't have had otherwise.

I too think it will be a more effective drug to slow down the progress of the disease. The balancing out of immune system and research in to triggers could also be a possibility. Again if you already have damaged joints then stabilizing seems the best scenario. Hopefully new pain relievers will also become available. Or a greater understanding of pain control.
I also think my PA is part of who I am. Just wish it was a smaller part!

Not in our lifespan I'M afraid. They have too much fiddling the books  to do,  to worry about us mere mortals. After all its us who keep them in their cosy positions and salaries.
